Pours a hazy copper with a two-finger, rocky, beige head that slowly dissipates to a quarter-inch head. Aromas of malt, fruity esters, spicy fruit. Flavors are brown sugar, caramel, plum, and spice. Finish is orange peel, dried fruit, and caramel, with a noticeable alcohol burn. Medium to heavy on the palate. Overall, a very nice beer. Complex, but malty and smooth. Very well made. I would definitely buy this one again.

Pour from a bottle at the Rockmill tasting room. Pours a cloudy amber-brown with a small beige head that leaves some lace spots. Notes of caramel and dark malts, dark fruits, vanilla, toast, mild spice, and earth. Light-medium bodied, with a clean mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Nice, easy drinking dubbel. I’d like to revisit this one.

Bottle at RBWG 2014, thanks! Pours a clear deep amber with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has dark fruits with some sweet grains and a bit of a cookie. Flavor has more of a drain note with a bit of dark fruits and toffee.

guest sample @ Party Town / Florence Ky --- Hazy dark amber, bubbly head cover, dots of lace. Taste begins with sour malt, followed by honey and spices in the palate, sour and bitter (plus a little alcohol warmth) re-engaging in the finish. Interesting, complex, definitely not by the book.

750ml bottle originally shared by Tmoney99 (2011). Had a few times since. Pours a hazy amber color with a smaller off white head. The aroma has caramel malt , Belgian yeast, fruits favoring figs, plums and raisins, vanilla, sweetness, hints of alcohol. Medium to medium-full, smooth mouthfeel. Pretty decent for an organic, local (Ohio) brew.

Poured from bomber with a amber with a tan head highly carbonated noted from the pour. Aroma is bourbon and mated. Slight Belgium yeast in the background Flavor of dark fruit with a funky barnyard finish combined with a bit of bourbon. This brewery is a diamond in the rough. Small and worth the high price bombers they offer. Thinks its the water of where they are located that makes this brew worth seeking out.

~6oz pour from a bottle, at the brewery. Totally hazy amber brown color, slightly reddish. Good thin beige head. Solid ropes and dots of lace. Bigger body. Smooth, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Awesome, creamy texture. Great caramel, lighter dark fruit. Hint of vanilla. Very well-integrated, subtle, and complex. Moderate bitter taste, moderate sweet - sweetness is not at all bothersome here, very enjoyable, with a light pleasant alcohol warmth. Flavor profile suggests a light bourbon character even, though I know there is no bourbon involved here... No surprise that I remember really enjoying the cask-aged version, this base is perfect for it. Probably the best dubbel I’ve ever had, very impressive. Far exceeded my expectations, made me rethink the style.

8/06/2011: Rockmill Dubbel Organic Abbey Ale... Aroma: A bit dry and dusty backed by fruity caramel malt (reminds me of Marris Otter malt) and Belgian fruit. Appearance: Amber color, fairly opaque; bubbly beige-colored head. Flavor: Plum, fig, vanilla, fruity caramel malt; date sweetness; some alcohol coming through along with some raisin and golden raisin. Palate: Medium to medium-full, smooth mouthfeel, good texture. Overall: Pretty good Dubbel; probably my favorite of the Rockmill offerings.

1 pint 9.4 fl. oz. bottle (8% Alc/Vol) shared by Tmoney99. Thanks Tom! Rating #28 for this beer.
