This Franconian (Northern Bavaria) specialty smoked bier is a true delight to beer lovers. Hazy straw in color, this unfiltered, well-balanced bier is a blend of superior aromatic hops and the best German pilsner malts.

Draft at the brewpub. Aroma: Light toast and some biscuity malt. Light herbal and grassy hops. Smoke is there, but is very subtle. Comes forward more as it warms. Appearance: Medium amber in color and hazed. Off-white head was small and frothy with fair retention. Fair lacing. Flavor: Light toasted nuts and biscuity maltiness with a light caramel note. Smoke comes in mid taste with some very light charred woody notes. Some herbal and grassy hop notes into the finish. Medium-light bitterness. Palate: Medium bodied. Medium carbonation. Overall: Decent beer. Liked the malt notes and enjoyed the subtle smoke. A good beer to start with.

On tap at the pub. Golden color with a foamy white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Light hoppy nose with a surprising lack of smoke given the name. Light toast and buscuit maltiness with bright grassy hops. The smoke is very sublte and comes to the fore in the finish. It is less campfire and more burnt toast bitterness. This was very nice for lunch with their beer cheese soup.
