The brewer allow the beer to macerate with fresh cherries, raspberries and cranberries. After this maceration in oak, the beer re-ferments in the bottle. The result is RODENBACH Caractère Rouge, an exceptional RODENBACH with fruit maceration and a 7% alcohol volume. The brew is more than unique and extremely exclusive, as only 900 75-cl bottles were produced. Geunes serves this wilful beer as part of his other unique range of beer varieties in his restaurant, ’t Zilte, at the Antwerp MAS museum.

Bottle share at Evernote. Aroma is almost buttery (maybe butterscotch) and lots of berry. Taste is a wonderful mixture of raspberries, cherries, oak... a very balanced sourness. Palate is also a lovely mix of fizz, astringency, acid. Tasted this along with a bunch of heavy hitters: Lost Abbey 10 Commandments / Unibroue Grande Réserve 17 / Allagash Tripel Reserve (all rated 99) and this was by far my favorite.

Sample at the 2014 Infected Chimipalooza on 11/01/2014. Cloudy reddish-brown color with a medium thin white head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing. Aroma of oak, tart fruit and yeast. Medium body with flavors of raspberries and cherries, floral yeast and earthy malt. The finish is fruity with a cranberry and raspberry aftertaste. Enjoyable beer all around.

750 ml corked and caged bottle split two ways. Pours slightly dirty light red with a generous off white head. Lots of red berries of course, light tartness and fairly sweet finish. I expected this to be better though...

Rating #2800. Corked bottle from House Beer ($21.99). Red-rust color with a pink head that disappears quickly. Aroma is big cherry and other berries, wood. Tastes are highlighted by berry fruit - cranberry and cherry. Also winey, oak, little vanilla, background jammy. Light to medium evenly tart. Well deserved reputation.

Appearance: clear pinkish red, with a quickly vanishing fizzy pink head and active carbonation. Aroma: exploding with fruit, including prominent cherry and raspberry notes. Taste: sour, then sweet, then tart, then sour again, with all those awesome fruit notes and a nice dose of old wood and pipe tobacco. Finish: nice sweet tart balance, with the cranberries slowly coming on. Notes: Bottle from Perfect Pour Columbia. Superb. Though heavier in alcohol, seemed lighter in body than most of their offerings, and a bit more sweet. The fruit character was fresh, ripe, and added layer upon layer. Really enjoyable.

Bottle; pours ruby with a thin beige head; aroma is very fruity and tart with red berries and a bit of vinegar; taste is initially sweet and then becomes tart with more red fruits as the dominant flavor; finish is crisp and dry; very nicely balanced between the sweet and sour; excellent beer
