COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The brewer allow the beer to macerate with fresh cherries, raspberries and cranberries. After this maceration in oak, the beer re-ferments in the bottle. The result is RODENBACH Caractère Rouge, an exceptional RODENBACH with fruit maceration and a 7% alcohol volume. The brew is more than unique and extremely exclusive, as only 900 75-cl bottles were produced. Geunes serves this wilful beer as part of his other unique range of beer varieties in his restaurant, ’t Zilte, at the Antwerp MAS museum.

Bottled 75cl. Deeply pleasant and dangerously drinkable. Again a beer with dandelion reminiscence in the finish.

(Rating #5091)

750 ml bottle 2013 vintage. Pours a dark garnet red with full pinkish head. Bright Aromas of strawberry jam and cherry pie Flavours of dark cherries, light wood, and strawberries. Very fruity. Like a barrel aged cherry cider. Wonderful balance, very light tartness

750ml bottle (One Pint Pub, Helsinki) - shared by mjs - thanks!
Lovely light (not heavy) dark berry aroma - raspberry first, then maybe aged blackcurrent jam. Nice hazy red, persistent loose off-white head. Lovely sharp crisp palate, touch acidic but not harsh. Aged wood ester retronasals. Lovely sour red base, and the fruits are clear but not dominating. Gentle sweetness makes this highly drinkable, no harshness at all. Classic sour fruity ale. More fruitiness in the finish. Happy memories in the late finish.

(Bottle, 0.75 l, at One Pint Pub, 201309013) The beer poured reddish brown and quite clear. Its head was medium sized and pinkish. Aroma had sourness, cherries, cherry stones, raspberries, berries and Belgian style yeast. Palate was medium carbonation and dry with medium carbonation. Flavours were cherries, raspberries, sourness, berries, malts and bitterness. Afteraste had berries and bitterness. An interesting and pleasant combination.

Deep red/brown colour, quite bright with quickly dissipating low pink head. Raspberries, cranberries and cherries in the nose. Good balance between sourness and fruit, although probably on the sweet side for my taste but still enjoyable. Light body, well carbonated, lingering sour/sweet finish. Nice stuff.

750ml bottle from IPB.
Appearance : Clear amber-red with small light pink head. Light lacing.
Aroma : Lactic sourness with cooked cherries. Light cough syrup notes. Hot cherry pie, some funk, light wood. Light raspberries maybe. Light acidity from cranberries maybe. Some tartness.
Taste : Lactic sourness with sharp acidity. big cheery pie. Light raspberries. Light funk. Finish cherry pie with light funk, light wood and light vanilla.
Overall : Fairly nice fruity notes. Nice persistent fuity finish. Classic Rodenbach sourness. Really nice looking. More acessible for me than Rodenbach Grand Cru but I’m still not a Flanders Red fan. Well made, nice stuff, just not my thing.
