The brewer allow the beer to macerate with fresh cherries, raspberries and cranberries. After this maceration in oak, the beer re-ferments in the bottle. The result is RODENBACH Caractère Rouge, an exceptional RODENBACH with fruit maceration and a 7% alcohol volume. The brew is more than unique and extremely exclusive, as only 900 75-cl bottles were produced. Geunes serves this wilful beer as part of his other unique range of beer varieties in his restaurant, ’t Zilte, at the Antwerp MAS museum.

Härligt fyllig kropp, tar rejäl plats i munnen. Mycket trevlig!

Cherries, leather, oak, soy sauce. Nice complex sourness and the fruit brings interesting dimension. My only complaint is that the body is a little thin.

Bottle. Moderate hay for the malt, grass for the hops, light cheese for the yeast, with hints of cherry and solvent. Head is average size, fizzy, off-white with a few slippery spots of lacing and has good legs, and is mostly diminishing. Color is hazy, with small particles, medium red. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and heavily acidic, then finishes heavily acidic and sour. Palate is medium, a little slick with a lively carbonation. Another true Sour Red that I’m not truly on board with.

Bottiglia 75 CL.

Robe rouge, mousse blanche.

Bottle gift from SJ. Wow! I’m not crazy about the style, but it was really good. Notes of cranberry, sour / tar fruits, wood and zest. Finish was bubbly, and bready with a blast of tart sting. Well done.
