4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle thanks to Ed at Churchkey!!! Hazy rich red mahogany pour. Nose and flavor bring stunningly complex dark fruit including cranberry and blackberry with vinous notes and balanced tartness. Insanely drinkable. Excellent.
12/13/13- didn’t realize I’d rated this. Cinnamon cherry, vanilla, vinous. Really really good.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Shared bottle at Kulminator. Clear red golden body with an apricot glow and a small dense light brown head. Super inviting raspberry marmelade and fresh black berries on the nose. Mouth adds light fresh berries, hints of apple cider vinegar and black currant. Light to medium bodied with an overall mellow, balanced and smooth impression. Light notes of corn flakes in the finish. A true masterpiece.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Wow, this might be the best looking beer I’ve ever seen. It’s a hazy slightly pink/rosey red color with a small and fizzy, very light pink head that is almost white. There is a surprising amount of musty and grassy funk on the nose, very tart smelling, kind of that balsamic vinegar tart Rodenbach is known for, I can mostly smell the cranberries, the cherries and raspberries seem to blend together somewhat, and a nice subtle oak note. Wow, this beer continues to blow me away. Sweet raspberries up front, lots of bright red berry taste, the fruit seems to cut the sourness away quite a bit, though there is still plenty of that patent rodenbach balsamic vinegar sourness, a nice oaky taste, and a nice bit of barnyard funk. Wow, what an astounding beer. So refreshing and delicate, not overly sweet, and very smooth.

Words can’t really describe this beer. Incredible aroma, incredible flavor--you taste cranberries and cherries, and just the right amount of sour.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750 ml bottle to snifter (2012 vintage; shared with the Mrs,). Looks good; a semi-transparent deep cherry with foamy light pink head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells solid; tart, fruity, and a touch funky. Tastes like it smells, only more robust. Pleasant on the palate. Enjoyable.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Slightly hazy red pour with a pale pinkish head that slowly fades down to a film. Great lacing. Great aroma filled with cherry, raspberry, wood, and a hint of vinegar. Taste is very tart berries, slight vinegar, faint oak. Really nice tartness. Slightly acidic. Dry on the palate. Great beer. Really enjoyable.

Put down some real money to try a real beer this evening. Look, this is no joke. Caractere Rouge is exceptionally well-balanced; it strikes the right balance of tart fruit, lactose, and smoothness. A pleasure to drink, but I will have to run the finances again for re-purchase at $20 / 750ml bottle.
