COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The brewer allow the beer to macerate with fresh cherries, raspberries and cranberries. After this maceration in oak, the beer re-ferments in the bottle. The result is RODENBACH Caractère Rouge, an exceptional RODENBACH with fruit maceration and a 7% alcohol volume. The brew is more than unique and extremely exclusive, as only 900 75-cl bottles were produced. Geunes serves this wilful beer as part of his other unique range of beer varieties in his restaurant, ’t Zilte, at the Antwerp MAS museum.

(750ml bottle thanks to bu11zeye) clear deep red, ring of fine tan bubbles. Nose of cherry urinal cakes, huge lacto, dark macerated cherries, tart, wood esters. Taste of tart cherries, acidic, really nice soft chared wood, tastes great not sure why it has a smell of urinal cakes.

Bottle from bieresgourmet.be webshop. I know this is a beer for sharing, but I said to myself: my friend and Ratebeer admin Yngwie deserves a great beer for his honorary rating, celebrating his rating no. 10, 000 in absence since I can’t join the party tonight in Kristiansand. Oh well, this one’s for you Yngvar! :-) Pours a clear, deep ruby-hued body with a small pink-ish head. Lovely color. Nose is vinegar and acetone-like notes up front, followed by a lovely deep cascade of berries; all three kinds surfacing gently, dancing around in my nostrils. Nice. Hints of wood and caramel malt sweetness far in the back, but lacto-bacterial tartness and berries dominate for the most. Taste is finely tuned sweet berry notes at first, followed by really tart vinegar and acetone tones; then woody malt tones before a crisp, sweet-sour finish rounds the party off with style. The berries hang around in the aftertaste with a healthy dose of sourness, beckoning another sip. Palate is kind of fizzy but not really disturbing since it propels the taste in a rather enjoyable fashion. All in all a very fruity and lovely berry-focused sour ale. Highly recommendable and definitely worthy as a tribute rating to the RB King of Norway: Yngwie! Hail thee and CHEERS! :-D

Bottle. Dark red, attractive with a decent pink head. Beautiful fruit aroma with strong raspberry and cherry. I thought the cranberry would be overpowered but it seems to add to he tartness. Tasty tart woodiness. Lots of fruit. A bit of a sipper. A bit of a quaffer.

ChrisOs Marvellous Pre GBBF Mega Tasting. Bright red - amber beer with a residual pink head. Light dry palate, crispy. Typical Rodenbach - Mild Worcester sauce and vinegar but this one with added sweeteness, funk and raspberry and cherry fruits. Semi dry finish with the vinegar sourness starting to dominate. All right.

75cl bottle. It pours a clear dark ruby color with a small pinkish head. Aroma is ripe red berries and funk, with light vinegar notes. Nose is quite raspberries forward. Taste is similar, with a sharp acidity cut through by a fruity sweet flavor. Cherries are quite obvious but raspberries dominate once again. Some funk and some vinegar notes. Body is light to medium with effervescent carbonation. Overall, definitely a nice fruit sour. I have to say, though, that the fruit is a bit too much prominent to me and covers some of the complexities I learnt to love in Rodenbach creations. This is good, but miles away from their Vintage.

From glass at Brussels Beer Festival. Nice pinkish body with medium head. Nose of sugar and cherry and candy and fruits. Taste is also sweet and fruity with sour and vinegar throughout. Not my thing at all. Too tart but can respect the style.
