The brewer allow the beer to macerate with fresh cherries, raspberries and cranberries. After this maceration in oak, the beer re-ferments in the bottle. The result is RODENBACH Caractère Rouge, an exceptional RODENBACH with fruit maceration and a 7% alcohol volume. The brew is more than unique and extremely exclusive, as only 900 75-cl bottles were produced. Geunes serves this wilful beer as part of his other unique range of beer varieties in his restaurant, ’t Zilte, at the Antwerp MAS museum.

Went for it with the $25 price tag. 750ml. Pours a reddish amber with hints of black. Loud nose of sour berries, barnyard funk, and wood. Flavor is Rodenbach but more intensified, with berry elements hidden behind Flanders sour oak vats. Easily the best thing they’ve ever done.

Second Batch A: Red fruits, Sour Cherry, Raspberry and only slight Cranberry. Some Funk, which I guess subdues the Cranberry. A: Ruby red with pink-white head that quickly dissipates. T: Sour Red fruits(mostly Cherry and Raspberry), Oak, Vinous notes. Lactic and Acetic sourness. Almost no Sweetness left. P: Really dry. Not to much carbonation. Could need more body. O: Really nice one, should habe drunk younger.

[Bottle] Pours a nearly opaque crimson with a brown-ish tint; a layer of off-white foam settles quickly into a chunky, lasting collar. The aroma is lovely... Big sour cherry hits first with tart & sweet raspberry jam following up. Faint lemon, sour candies, & LOTS of warm vanillin from the oak barrels. Don’t explicitly get cranberry, but there’s a huge berry jam & juicy presence all around, lending both sweetness & sourness. Taste is the same way, sour at first, then flowing into a delicate, finishing sweetness. Sour cherry, raspberry jam, & lemon flesh overload. I finally get some notable cranberry in the mouth coating finish. Slightly vinous at times with an even more robust oak & vanillin presence on the palate. Candy-like aftertaste with a timid kiss of acidity & sweetness. Sharp & carbonated well... Wow, this beer is great. I normally love ass-puckering sourness, but I must appreciate the perfect sour/sweet balance of this beer, allowing the fruit to come out so vividly. Amazing execution.

2013-01-21. Dark red brown body with a tiny beige head. 3+ Aroma is quite fruity, sweet cherry, lightly syrupy. Flavour is similarly quite fruity, with lots of sweet cherry, light tartness in the finish that I assume is the cranberry but I probably wouldn’t pick it out as such without being told. Moderate lactic sourness throughout lingers in the finish. Smooth average plus bodied palate, soft carbonation. Enjoyable. Bottle shared by Blankboy

Shared with Wim at his home. Red amber colored beer with small white head and no carbonation visible. Fruited wooden aroma. Full sparkling palate. Finish is rather sour dry. Nice one!

Bottle from Sugaya shared at my friend’s Place. A ruby brown pour with a light pink head. Lovely sour fruity aroma of cherries & raspberries. Light body with a sparkling soft carbonation. The taste is a sweet sour berry vibe, sugary & palatable. Very well received by my female friends who don’t drink beer. Polished off the whole bottle in one sitting, my overall impression is of sour fruity goodness with a lingering tangy more that tart flavor. Good stuff, amazingly drinkable

Very rare! Very delicious! You can definitely taste the cranberry, cherries and sour cherries. A tad bit too carbonated! But other than that phenomenal.

Bottle share thanks to mrs. quash. Pours a fairly clear reddish color. Aroma of sour and sweet tarts, berry, raspberry, cherry, and some strawberry notes. Big cherry flavor up front, followed by raspberry with some funky barnyard character mixed in. Some slight medicinal character but not overwhelming. Very tasty.
