The brewer allow the beer to macerate with fresh cherries, raspberries and cranberries. After this maceration in oak, the beer re-ferments in the bottle. The result is RODENBACH Caractère Rouge, an exceptional RODENBACH with fruit maceration and a 7% alcohol volume. The brew is more than unique and extremely exclusive, as only 900 75-cl bottles were produced. Geunes serves this wilful beer as part of his other unique range of beer varieties in his restaurant, ’t Zilte, at the Antwerp MAS museum.

Words can’t really describe this beer. Incredible aroma, incredible flavor--you taste cranberries and cherries, and just the right amount of sour.

UPDATED: MAR 23, 2014 Remarkable. This beer is just too close to perfect. Tangy sour aroma and taste is full of cherry and oak. Lots of fruit in the taste too. Incredibly well balanced. I can?t praise this enough. My first perfect 5.

undescribable? A very fruity ’simple’ Rodenbach. Best i ever had, at cellar temp, makes the taste even smoother

UPDATED: MAR 26, 2013 Bottle (Batch 1)... This beer rocks!… Cloudy caramel-colored ale with orange highlights and a small fizzy, off-white head that never fully dissipates. The bouquet is crazy fruity; providing cherries, loads of acidity, caramel, vanilla, raspberry and red currants with a light splash of pinot noir vinegar. Medium to full bodied and super creamy with prickly carbonation. The flavor is every bit as fantastic as Alexander, but so much more fruity. Both acidic and acetic, this brew presents notes of caramel, raspberry and cherry, accompanied by a dainty splash of red wine vinegar. Sour, fruity, puckering finish. Mathieu87 provided this world class bottle of beer!

This is only the 3rd sour or so I’ve had, but this could be the one to get me into them. Medium clear cranberry color with a very thin head that remains. Does not taste Like a beer but feels like one to drink. Each of the cranberry, cherry, and raspberry flavors are easily found and very prominent. The motufeel is dominated by the tannins from the oak barrels which gives it that stinging and tart feel. Almost sweet like a soda for a second with all the fruit flavors then the sour takes over with the sting. I can’t really yell the hops and malts because I am not really familiar wiith sours. This was really enjoyable like a good wine.

Deep red color, minimal head. Aroma of cranberries, raspberries and slight oak. Taste is a smooth combination of cranberry and raspberry with a drier oak finish. One of, if not my favorite beer.

750ml bottle on tumbler glass. Pours into a reddish copper colour and a very soft, pink, quick to disappear head. Behind the sour aroma, you can feel a soothing hint of red berries. Tastes of red berries, very light hints of oak and has an acidic feel, with it dominating the sour berry aftertaste. It’s a shame they only made 900 bottles, but I guess for a beer so good you must use virgin blood and they ran out of it.

bottle. hazy, glowing golden red hued beer with a small, loud, light pink head. lots of berry fruits from aroma including strawberries, cherries, raspberry, etc., and some oak with mild sourness and hints of butter/caramel/vanilla. oak and sweet berry flavors dominate. moderate sour intensity. the berry sweetness really helps cut the acidity. moderate/high carbonation that is very fine bubbled and it creates more a creaminess on the palate than an annoying prickly mouthfull. this beer is perfect!....just the right amount of a acidity, sweetness, oak character, carbonation. a fast drinker at 7%...i downed the whole 750 all by my gluttonous self. didn’t even fire up my heartburn!

This has a nice fruity but not sweet aroma. Looks quite good. This is truly excellent. A mixture of the fruits and a perfect blend of sweet and sour, such that it’s never too sweet and the sourness isn’t extreme either. Truly an amazing beer who’s only real complaint is the prohibitive price. Fantastic.

An absolutely astonishing and suprising beer. Not at all what I expected from the Rodenbach name. This beer has elements of Rodenbach but also is very much like a fruit lambic. Nose is strong with the typical Rodenbach character and a touch of cherry and cranberry. It isn’t until you taste the beer that its full power becomes apparent. Quite acidic but extremely well balanced. More like an american sour than the typical flemish red it has far less of the vinegar notes in a typical rodenbach. Instead the back half the the beer is dominated by huge notes of cranberry, cherry and raspberry. Moderately sweet but sour enough to achieve near perfect balance, this beer is really only lacking in the nose, and note because the nose is bad in any ways, but just because it simply doesn’t match the incredible flavor. Probably the best Rodenbach I have ever had, and I’ve had them all at this point. Huge thanks to hopscotch for sharing this.
