COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The brewer allow the beer to macerate with fresh cherries, raspberries and cranberries. After this maceration in oak, the beer re-ferments in the bottle. The result is RODENBACH Caractère Rouge, an exceptional RODENBACH with fruit maceration and a 7% alcohol volume. The brew is more than unique and extremely exclusive, as only 900 75-cl bottles were produced. Geunes serves this wilful beer as part of his other unique range of beer varieties in his restaurant, ’t Zilte, at the Antwerp MAS museum.

An absolutely astonishing and suprising beer. Not at all what I expected from the Rodenbach name. This beer has elements of Rodenbach but also is very much like a fruit lambic. Nose is strong with the typical Rodenbach character and a touch of cherry and cranberry. It isn’t until you taste the beer that its full power becomes apparent. Quite acidic but extremely well balanced. More like an american sour than the typical flemish red it has far less of the vinegar notes in a typical rodenbach. Instead the back half the the beer is dominated by huge notes of cranberry, cherry and raspberry. Moderately sweet but sour enough to achieve near perfect balance, this beer is really only lacking in the nose, and note because the nose is bad in any ways, but just because it simply doesn’t match the incredible flavor. Probably the best Rodenbach I have ever had, and I’ve had them all at this point. Huge thanks to hopscotch for sharing this.

Thanks to the wife for the Valentine’s Day gift here. Pours fairly clear reddish brown, very slight head. Aroma is sour cherry, berry, faint oak, bit of caramel. Flavor matches. Delightful balanced sour note throughout. Really well done, a great reminder of just how much I appreciate Rodenbach. Can’t say I could tell the berries were present, as a lot of the berry flavors here are found in the "traditional" Rodenbach beers, but very nice however you want to look at it.

Bottle cotteridge pissup. Red thin head. Nice sour dark fruits in aroma and taste great mouthwatering astringent finish. Prickly carbonated. Good stuff.

75cl bottle from Slowbeer. Pours reddish brown with a medium head, the sparkly foam quickly dying. Lots of berry in the aroma, the sour cherry is noticeable as well. Very interesting and appealing taste of cherry, sourness, some berries. Fine carbonization, dry finish.

Bottle; shared with Clayfiish (Untappd) at my place. I think it was sourced by Andy Parker or myself. Thanks Andy. Cherry Red. Sour acid aroma. Old socks. Vinous red wine. Sour cherries. Lactose acid. Taste is tart cherry, lactose, leather, smooth texture, citric juice. Very nicely-rounded. Benchmark for the style. Awesome.

Sample from Erzengel, many thanks. The beer has got a deep ruby-brown colour with a medium body. Aroma of mild red wine vinegar and unripe grapes. Taste of mild smooth vinegar, malt, barley, wine, mild acid and unripe fruits. The sourness is well balanced with offering a welcomed deepness. Enjoyed it a lot.

2/20/2015. 750 ml. bottle. Reddish color with a fizzy pinkish head. Aromas of red berries, a little oak. Tart and tight, not overly sour. Exceptional balance that ends with a dry finish.

75cl bottle in a head to head with classic Rodenbach. Pours a reddish amber with a small, white head. Aroma is oaky, fruity with lots of dark berries, balsamico, vinegar, very dry, lots of juicy berries with some sweetness to it. Taste is a very complex mix of the sweetness and the sour and tart notes. Vanilla-sweet, oaky, dark cherries, fresh, sour raspberries and dry, slightly bitter cranberry. All very explicit. Nice, juicy medium body and medium carbonation as well.
