bkurtz (276), Peru Jan 8, 2009 Poured cloudy deep copper with a small "fizzy" head. Like a cider with a sweet and then sour. Well made brew made for sipping. BlackForestCO (819), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Jan 7, 2009 Updated: Jan 10, 2009Bottle from tytoanderso, thanks man. Poured a deep garnet-red color with some ruby highlights and a thick, dense light beige head that slowly receded to a thick layer. Tart, fruity aroma with hints of cherry, red grape, oak, some acetic acid, and that vinegar-like Rodenbach yeastiness. Tart, lightly puckering entry with some light vinegar and acidity along with some sour cherry and oak and a finish that pairs some light sweetness and hints of grape skin with a dry, lightly funky yeastiness. Palate is left lightly dry with a nice hint of oak. Not overly sour, but well done and enjoyable. Thanks again Ty. jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Jan 6, 2009 750ml bottle-pours huge overflowing, no, an "exuberant presentation" as joet says [ok, I read the thread on Arbor Brewing bottled beers]. Rocky/foamy tan head with red/brown color. Aroma is sour cherries/apples, spice, oak, medium malt, some antiseptic/astringent notes. Taste is very sweet/tart/fermented/sour cherries/apples, spice, oak, medium/dark malt, some antiseptic/acidic notes. Complex, finishes semidry and puckering. Interesting/occasional/sipping. howie (549), DeForest, Wisconsin, USA Jan 6, 2009 Fruity and acidic nose, even vinegar-like. Sharp acidity is balanced by light fruity sweetness. Clean, complex, delicate. pjweaver (133), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 4, 2009 Tulip glass. After fighting the cork off and almost dropping the whole bottle...poured a black walnut color, with a thin but resilient white head. Aroma heavy of basalmic vinegar, red fruits, light chardonnay sour. Sour bite on first taste, green apples, tangerine, unripe grapes, vinegar and coolness. Bitey smooth mouth feel, slight metallic flavor that others have mentioned now that I have looked. Nothing too terrible, thoroughly enjoyable. luv2brew (177), Chesterfield, Virginia, USA Jan 2, 2009 I dont drink too many sour ales, but this one is actually very drinkable. You can smell the sourness right away, and i though it was going to be overwhelming, but its not. Pours a dark mahogany color with little or no head. it is very sweet, but not a malty sweet. Little or no hops, but it does have a mild bitterness at the end espenra (277), Oslo, Norway Dec 30, 2008 33cl bottle from Barley Wine. It poured a dark red colour with a small creamy off-white head that settled down fast in the glass. The aroma is very sour with notes ot yeast and cherries. The flavour is bitter and tastes of yeast, cherries and appes. It has a short aftertaste. Lagunitasfan (432), San Diego, California, USA Dec 30, 2008 AlohaC’s year end tasting. When it was first poured, those with way more experience and discerning palates said it was bad. Metallic. I didn’t taste it for 15-20 minutes, as the bottle sat open. By the time I tasted it I liked it. It was sweet and round in the mouth. Tart finish. Maybe i just don’t know.
