Good luck to you all who like this style. It presents well with a great claret colour and fruity nose. Then it goes downhill from there.

Yikes. This one is insane. As tasty, if not tastier, than regular Rodenbach.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: AUG 28, 2006 Bottle Deep red body. Off-white fizzy head, that disappears quickly. Intense aroma of wood, sour cherries, lactics, vinegar, ... Heavily sour, lightly sweet initial flavour. Moderately sour finish. Very well balanced, full flavour of sour cherries, with some tartness. Very complex flavour. Just splendid Rodenbach continues to make this almost perfect beer.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Red chestnut brown with a head that quickly disappeared. Rich deep sour cherry aromas with a hint of malt. Made me pucker up. There is a sweetness in the background that is overpowered by sour tart acidic flavors. Low carbonation in the glass but gets fizzy in my mouth. Full palate. Long finish. For me this is a acquired taste, I'm working on it.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
My first flemish sour ale. The question here is do you like sour cherries? If you answer yes (which I do) then this is for you. Flavor is sour cherries, and a touch of some tart granny smith apples. The palate on this is great, very tart and tangy. Ive come across some "sour" beers that do it wrong and they taste horrible. Well this beer does it right, and its quite delicious. A very new drinking experience and one I wish to return to again.

brown/reddish color w/ a vinuous aroma, the sourness on the tongue is quite pleasant. This is a complex brew not for a beginner

Rich nose of sour cherry. The body is well balanced between sweet and tart, and has notes of cherry and grape.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Deep red, not much head. Nose bright and fruity, candied cherries and peaches. Zippy flavor, very unique. Quite sour, puckeringly so. Some definite spiciness behind the sour, peppery and clove. Definite cherry and sour apple. Sharp and vinegary.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
UPDATED: MAY 21, 2003 Poured out of bottle, bought at Hopleaf bar in Chicago 5/3/03. I heard about a recent change in Rodenbach (bottler, perhaps?) that has led to a greatly diminished quality in the product, and that's the only thing I can think would explain the beer I got last night. Somewhat strong smell of cheap red wine. Dark ruby pour with an impressively tight, thick head. Tart and sour flavor of grapes/raisins that lingers. . . but I wish it hadn't. Dry finish, respectably long, but again, the whole time it's not really pleasant. No body to speak of-- I don't know what the people who boast "very full-bodied" are talking about. Stronger taste of alcohol than the 6.5% suggests, but it really does nothing for me. I was anxiously choking down each swig about mid-way through, anticipating the next beer to cleanse the palate. Maybe I had a skunked bottle, but I don't know if it was *that* bad (or that *kind* of bad)-- it was just a beer that seemed way off-balance and like it tried to work a unique angle but couldn't pull it off. A huge disappointment.
