Well I have now had the brown sour, still not a fan. I guess the balsamic flavor just puts me off enough. Vinegar cherry slight alcohol, some oak. Definitely has nice sour notes. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 4, 2009 Thoroughly enjoyed from a 750ml bottle in a tulip glass. The beer pours a very deep ruby that borders on being brown in color. The head is off-white, and is medium in size; surprising for a beer aged as long as this one. The aroma brings a tremendous complexity, showing at first some winey characters, slight vinegar, berries, and a bit of malt. As the sample warms, some brettanomyces character also becomes noticeable. The palate shows a medium amount of carbonation and begins fruity, showing the aforementioned mid-summer berries. The fruit lessons and moves into a malt character that combines with the brett mid-palate. As I move further down this odessey of greatness, I get a wonderful vinegar/wine character that leads my palate, as if it was on a leash, to a very dry finish. Nearly flawless. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 28, 2009 Pours dark brown with a reddish tint and a small tan head. The aroma of tart apples, oak and malt hit my nose immediately. Flavor is more of the same, only more intense. Also a bit spicy, some red wine vinegar and a solid dose of wood. Quite smooth. awiseman01 (342), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA

This is a great representation of the style. The aroma is funk, fruit, malty, sour and yet like a dopplebock at the same time. the appearance is a beautiful red/brown, cloudy, off-white head. The flavor is malty, brown mustard, vinegar, fruit. The finish is a tart fruit sour taste. Very, very good. Damico (165), Norristown, Pennsylvania, USA
