islay (470), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA May 20, 2008 12 oz. pour, on tap at Buster’s on 28th in Minneapolis on 5-19-08. Sour, musty, yeasty, sweet aroma of rotten apple and crabapple. Pours a cloudy red/amber with a small amount of beige head. Sour, chalky taste. Lemon and sour sucking candy, white vinegar, and champagne flavors. Some dryness. Bready finish. Interesting, hard to describe aftertaste. Sharp palate sensations. I really enjoyed this beer, but I’ll admit that I’m not a Flemish sour expert. On the negative side, it did give me some heartburn later on in the night. Zinister (1199), Houston, Texas, USA May 20, 2008 Dark brown with brown head. Sweet balsamic vinegar nose with cherries poking through. Flavor is the same with acidic flavor that cuts through. Tart, oaky cherries with acid funk. JohnQPublic (387), Brooklyn, New York, USA May 17, 2008 Draught @ Beer Table, Brooklyn. Dark brown, with a fluffy tan head. Aroma is sour, balsamic, with a hint of fruity sweetness. Taste is sour, biting, acidic, tart, but very clean and refreshing. Crisp, palate cleansing. Mouthfeel is dry, vigorous carbonation. New to the style, but a very good beer. brigg (213), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA May 16, 2008 (bottle) Dark red (almost black) body with small brown head that fades fast. Balsamic and vinegar aroma with cherry-like fruit. Flavor has that same acidic sweetness. Very, very tart - I love it. A round, soft, medium-to-full mouth-feel. I love flemish sours. Grossecaisse (108), France May 13, 2008 roasty, citrus, bubblegum, woody, red, sparkling, heavy cloying sweetness, heavily sour, medium body, lively, bitter, esox (259), Oulu, Finland May 11, 2008 Bottle. Minimal white head, some lace. Hazy amber/brown liquid. Vinegar and lots of yeast with spiciness. Very dry and sour vinegar flavor with saltiness. Medium body with lots of Co2. Good one! mjs (1446), Helsinki, Finland May 10, 2008 (0.33 l bottle at Konttori, Tampere, on 2008-03-08) Dark reddish colour. Hardly any head. Very sour nose. Malts and acidiness in taste. Fruitiness and vomit in taste. Ofortuna (322), Grafton, Wisconsin, USA May 8, 2008 From my backlog. Layers of sweetness within here. A great representation of the style. Moderate acidic notes, gorgeous color and poured a beautiful head and lacing. Upfront yeast notes with bits of balsamic vinegar and lime. Quite a bit of dried cherries present with a slight character of oak mid-palate. Just a bit sharp with the intensity of acidity for myself.
