ElGaucho56 (386), USA Feb 24, 2008 Pours a clear, dark garnet brown, with fizzy, collapsing offwhite head. Nose is very vinous, with a strong oaky character, like wooden balsamic vinegar. On the palate tart cherries leap to the front, to slowly recede into mild dark caramel and faint chocolatemalts and medicinal tingly hops. Really well balanced, with a nice moreish finish. One of the better flemish sours I’ve tried, and much, much better than regular rodenbach. TheBeerOrg (1563), Kentucky, USA Feb 24, 2008 Pours dark reddish brown with a mostly receding wispy tan head. Aroma and taste of oak, balsamic vinegar, sour cherry, and lots of acid. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with lively carbonation and highly acidic. Honestly, I like sour beers and I considered this to be much too acidic. Not very far removed from drinking vinegar. Might be good with some salty food though. JAXSON (229), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 24, 2008 Pours like coca cola from a 12 oz. bottle with a quickly dissipating beige head with lively bubbles. A light sourness followed by a huge vinegar kick dominates the aroma and flavor, and to me, nothing could overcome that vinegar phenomena. Kind of tough to get through the whole bottle, to be honest. Not great at all; no cherry, oak, or other expression making it complex or noteworthy beyond the slightly unpleasant vinegar character. Felsenbrau (19), Middletown, Ohio, USA Feb 22, 2008 Pours a deep rootbeer/amber color with short-lived tan head, absolutely no lacing. Wonderful aroma of apples, apple cider, (exotic fruits?). Light taste of apple cider swiftly turns sour apple and apple vinegar. Finishes sour sour sour! Interstingly complex, will try with seafood next time. mirjukka (695), LOHJA, Finland Feb 21, 2008 bottle at OpusK Lohja
Color dark cherry red ,very small head
scent: sour
Taste: very sour almost vineqar but pleasant way, cherry. very long aftertaste RomanW70 (297), Providence, Rhode Island, USA Feb 18, 2008 Pours Reddish borwn with a light head that disappears quickly. Aroma of sour cherries with a hint of chocolate. Taste is sour throughout and lasts. Strong and consistent from begining to end. Has med-high carbonation and a full mouth feel. Can detect some aromatic hops in the finish. hellbilly (1496), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Feb 17, 2008 Updated: Apr 19, 2008on tap @ papago... sweet! this pours dark brown with red tints. it has no head on it but you can see the carbonation jumping out. you can smell how sour it is before your nose hits the glass and when it does it stings a bit. the aroma is mostly sour and fruity with some underlying grain and caramel. it reminds me of wood aged sherry vinegar. the flavor is initially sweet but turns really quickly to dry and sour. notes of wood, tart apples, fresh red cherries and grains play a secondary role. the finish is crisp, clean and dry. medium bodied with a puckering mouth feel and lip drying qualities. they get more satisfying the more i drink....8/4/9/5/18=4.4
from the bottle... aromas of mineral/slate, grassiness and wood are added. the flavor is woodier than the tap version. it’s not as sour and it’s missing something on the middle palate but retains the creamy mouth feel 8/4/8/5/17=4.2 FastEddie (178), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Feb 16, 2008 The other flemish red ales I’ve had so far had something in common with ale. This one does not. The sourness is complete and total, and really something that compels me to keep drinking it... fast. I really enjoy this style a lot.
