COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Filtered.
A blend of 1/3 young beer and 2/3 of beer aged 2 years in large oak vats. The more important proportion of oak matured beer contributes to its fruity taste, complexity and intensity. The finish is worthy of a great wine.

Bottle bought @ Systembolaget and consumed on October 7. Pours deep reddish brown with a white head that dissipates without leaving much trace on the glass. Smell is quite strong and sour with vinegar, prunes, burnt sugar and cherries. It’s very complex with lots going on. Taste is very tart with vinegar and some very ripe fruit. The dry sourness makes it quite vinous. It’s slightly sweet for a while with some burnt sugar but that quickly gives way for a sour and dry finish with a slight bitterness.

From the bottle. Poured a deep reddish brown with an off-white head. Strong fruit on the nose - cherries especially, supplemented with apple. Tasted finishes pretty sour, especially if you let it sit. Decent body. Would recommend to the sour fan.

had this on tap. Poured a nice dark amber color with a good foamy head. Excellent aromas of tart red cherries, sour apples, some malt tones and a touch of florals. Very good aromas very good medium body with a real good feel, but the flavors seemed a slight bit muted and weren’t as alive as the nose was it’s been a while since I’ve had a rodenbach and I was quickly reminded how good it was. A real quality sour that is just as enjoyable

Review from notes at World of Beer - Fort Myers on 9/17/11. Poured on draft into a St. Bernardus goblet. Appearance: Pours a very dark caramel brown with a 1-2 finger creamy light tan head. Excellent lacing. Smell: Vinegar and wine grape hulls. Quite sour aroma. Taste: Vinegar and sour grapes with light woody notes. Aftertaste is light and dry with sour notes. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Drinkability: Pretty good drinkability. Despite the relatively low ABV%, it seems fairly heavy. I wouldn’t drink more than a couple in one sitting. Overall: Very good beer overall. If you’re a fan of sour beers, this one is definitely worth trying.

The last time I had a sour ale I found it rather strange, let’s see if this is still the case! The body is clear deep coca cola coloured, and the head is small and off-white. The head vanishes quite quickly, not even a film is remaining, just some bubbles along the walls. Poor lacing. The aroma is… well… interesting. Vinegar, balsamic vinegar, fermented apples and other fermented fruits, red port wine. It doesn’t actually taste like something that you should put into your mouth, but on the other hand it’s quite intriguing! Nice in a disgusting way, if you know what I mean. The taste is initially medium sweet, then the sourness creeps in, and it just gets more and more sour and acetic. Quite dry tart finish. Flavours of fruits gone bad. Oh my, I’m still not ready for this beer style. But surprisingly it sort of grows on me, and the last half of the bottle isn’t that bad. Lots of extra points simply for being strange, different and demanding, but I think I’ll wait a few more months before trying another sour ale.

Tap. Pours a brownish red. Nice aroma of cherries and apple. Medium sour taste. I definitely like this better than regular Rodenbach.

Appearance: Medium to little head, slightly brown in color. A very deep copper hue, almost black at a first glance, with a little ruby reflection. Aroma: Intense, vinegar at the front, then notes of honey, a hint of spice and also a note of cherry. Taste: Starts surprisingly sweet, but in an elegant and light way, then immediately tartness adds up, sharp to the point of giving it a spicy zing. The sweetness and the tartness balance each other very well. Good body, considering the low alcohol content, with a lively carbonation that keeps everything lovely. No bitterness, the honey notes come back in the taste. A long, discreet, sour, with a little sweet note, finish. Good.
