COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rodenbach Vintage is the unique result of selection by our Rodenbach brew masters, the barrel after two years of maturation has produced the best beer, "the best barrel of the year". The label is always the number of barrel stated and the year which marks the beginning of maturation.

Rodenbach Vintage is 100% matured old beer, resulting in superior Rodenbach Grand Cru. Its taste is complex, round, intense and refreshing. Typically, the apple tart fruitiness combined with caramel, wild honey and oak with a hint of vanilla, cherry and licorice. Its aroma has hints of caramel and oak, as well as notes of green apples mixed with honey and chocolate. The soft sour, fruity aftertaste is long and nicely balanced like a grand cru wine.

Ingredients: water, barley malt, corn, hops.

2008 Vintage. Love the oak in this beer...complements the deep sour flavors very well. Great mouthfeel, deep layers of fruit and oak make it tasty all the way from nose to lingering finish.

Red brown colour. Complex aroma with some nice oaky tones. Also some fruit. Flavour is very sour but the deep flavours of oak and fruit do balance it out a little.

Flaske: Rødbrun øl med et stort skumhoved. Duften er primært balsamico, der igen dominere i smagen. Virkelig en dejlig øl men lige lidt under cuvee de ranke. Begge dejlige og yderst drikbare.

2007 vintage tasted at home. I picked up this bottle for $11 at a local beer store that was just trying to move some stock. Score for me. I’ll be returning to purchase the remaining bottles. It pours a very dark murky red/brown color with a khaki head. The aroma is very vinous with lots of tart berries, oak, brown sugar, and hints of balsamic and leather. It has great balance of sweet/sour aromas. The flavor is pretty much the same with tremendous balance and harmony. Sweet brown sugar cuts the tartness of the berry character which is boosted by only a hint of balsamic and the vanilla/oak provides subtle background notes adding to the complexity. The funk is subdued allowing the sweet and sour aspect to really shine. Overall, I loved this one. Compelling and rich.......

0.75 l bottle (vintage 2008), thanks hanniku! Hazy red brown color. Sweet and sour with acetic acid, sour cherry, leather and vanilla. Sweet and sour flavor with acetic acid, nuts and cherries. Some acetic sharpness but otherwise smooth creamy palate. Slightly too acetic but still quite tasty dessert.

Vintage 2007. Quite surprizing one, but in line with Rodenbach’s products. What’s nice, over the aroma and taste, is the fact that it is low in alcool, so you can have 2 glasses without any hesitation and still take the car :-) This is one of the favorite beer of my fiance, and I must confess this is a great one!

2009 vintage. After some of the other Rodenbach’s I was expecting something more extreme than what I achieved, hence the high scores in all categories baring the all important overall. If anything this is one of the more approachable Sour Ales I have tried, but will admit I am anything but a connoisseur on this style (forgive me beer gods).

2007 vintage. Draft at Capones in Norristown, PA. Pours a dark golden ruby color with tangerine hues and a half finger off white head that slowly fades into a lasting ring. Minimal lacing left behind. Sweet funky aroma with a decent amour of acetic vinegar and a strong barrel presence. Hints of earthy oak and vanilla followed by some dark fruit especially vinous grape and dark cherry. Vinegar presence without smelling like acetic nail polish. Medium bodied with sharp carbonation up front followed by earthy oak, tart, acetic funk and vinous frut. The barrel presence is strong with lots of toasted oak and vanilla followed by the dark fruit notes before lingering into a bone dry, puckering acetone finish. Lots of puckering vinegar in the finish leaving me salivating for more. Funky, acetic, sweet and dry. Very comlex and flavorful but a bit tough to drink.

I’ve had the 2007 and 2008 Vintage bottle and 2008 Vintage on draft at the Kulminator. Pours a reddish brown color. Aromas of easter egg, dark fruit, yeast, and a touch of wood. Flavor is sour cherries, yeast, wood, and a nice tart finish.

Light malty and hoppy aroma. Very unpleasent sour aroma and flavor. No balance at all. Alas longfinish. Oily palate. Can a sour be off?
