COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rodenbach Vintage is the unique result of selection by our Rodenbach brew masters, the barrel after two years of maturation has produced the best beer, "the best barrel of the year". The label is always the number of barrel stated and the year which marks the beginning of maturation.

Rodenbach Vintage is 100% matured old beer, resulting in superior Rodenbach Grand Cru. Its taste is complex, round, intense and refreshing. Typically, the apple tart fruitiness combined with caramel, wild honey and oak with a hint of vanilla, cherry and licorice. Its aroma has hints of caramel and oak, as well as notes of green apples mixed with honey and chocolate. The soft sour, fruity aftertaste is long and nicely balanced like a grand cru wine.

Ingredients: water, barley malt, corn, hops.

Bottle 75cl from Lio thanks a lot, a clear red beer with medium head. Nose is like a oude bruin with cherries and maderisation notes. Aroma is fruity, sour and sweet, very pleasant (more sweet than usual grand cru). This beer is vinous, not too acid, very carbonated, pleasant easy drinkable the oak and cherries notes are very fine, a great stuff.

2007 bottle. Murky brown with a beige head. Aroma of cherries, strawberries, tart apples, wood - OK but doesn’t promise all that much. Slippery mouthfeel. Taste is sweet and sour with very tightly integrated flavours. There’s berries, brown sugar, vinegar, oak, vanilla, almonds, white pepper. Some acid and wood at the end. Intense and fairly complex but really easy drinking.

Bottle (2008).Light amber, hazy, short and fully diminishing head. Moderate, vinous and lightly sweetish aroma, some sourness and fruitiness with some dark fruits, faint vanilla – oak. Body is medium, malty and sweetish flavor, cherry fruitiness, some sourness with faint vanilla. Finish is average, malty and sweetish, cherry sourish fruitiness and faint vanilla. Aroma has vinous sourness, as aroma has more sweetish cherry fruitiness – aroma and flavor not in balance.

2008 Vintage. Brown with a amber touch and a small white head. Acidity, wood, vanillia and caramel in the nose. More of the same in the mouth but with some additional and hints of sherry (especially above recommended serving temperature, which is the way I like it). Altogether a complex and interesting beer.

The following are notes from a blind tasting of sour brown and sour red beers at beastiefan2k’s house. The beers were served in sets of three, three flights total. All beers were served blindly, with a random order. This was really well set up, and a bunch of fun - thanks Eugene!

++++ ORIGINAL RATING 26 July 2011 ++++

Rating #2,000. 750 ml corked and caged bottle purchased at Zipps, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Barrel No 230, 2007 Vintage. Pour is a murky golden brown, with a. smallish off white head. Aroma is really soft tart cherry, acidic vinegar, and a very natural woodiness. All aromas are really nicely integrated, all come across as very natural, and very soft. I really enjoy how "put together" Rodenbach beers seem. The taste is the tart cherry and vinegar acidity. The woodiness is more oaky than the nose suggested, but still is nicely integrated with the other flavors. Palate is medium bodied, lower carbonation level, and clean a vinegar finish. Enjoyable one. 2008 Vintage. Really really enjoyed this one. Raisin/crimson/pinot noir colored pour with a small eggshell head. Tons of balsamic, brown sugar, Jolly Rancher, spice, wood, dark cherry skins, vanilla...lots of surprising complexity. Yum!
