Rodenbach Vintage is the unique result of selection by our Rodenbach brew masters, the barrel after two years of maturation has produced the best beer, "the best barrel of the year". The label is always the number of barrel stated and the year which marks the beginning of maturation.

Rodenbach Vintage is 100% matured old beer, resulting in superior Rodenbach Grand Cru. Its taste is complex, round, intense and refreshing. Typically, the apple tart fruitiness combined with caramel, wild honey and oak with a hint of vanilla, cherry and licorice. Its aroma has hints of caramel and oak, as well as notes of green apples mixed with honey and chocolate. The soft sour, fruity aftertaste is long and nicely balanced like a grand cru wine.

Ingredients: water, barley malt, corn, hops.

Bottle from Systembolaget, 2008 Vintage.
Hazy brown colour with off-white head. Vinegar with raisins, tart plums and cherries in the aroma. Pleasant sour taste is soft with the tart fruits ruling the game. Very well balanced package.

2007 Bottle. Courtesy of Jason Bertrand, who can’t remember his Ratebeer name, but is a great friend nonetheless. Aroma of chocolate, waffle cone, cherry and caramel apple. Appearance was reddish brown with tan head. Flavor matches the nose; I have never had a more chocolate filled sour. Sour cherries and tart grape round out the finish. Palate was very bubbly. A real pleasure.

Tap, Kulminator. Pours a clear ruby red body with a beautiful creamy off-white head that had amazing retention. The nose is acidic and tart with some sour cherry and nice woody notes. The flavor is a bit acetic, but much less than the Vin de Cereal. Much more drinkable. Full of sour tart cherry front to back with just the right amount of underlying sweetness. Some nice tannic wood on the finish. Mouthfeel is bone dry and refreshing with perfect soft fizzy carbonation. Delicious, much better than the Vin de Cereal.

Bottle. Poured a beautiful deep dark red with a light white head. Aroma was full and complex: Cherries, some raspberry and blackberry, with notes of caramel and vanilla, as well as a grassiness that hid behind it all. Nice balance of sweet and sour, with a winey complexity. Every sip had something new to discover. Suprisingly more refreshing and less winey than the Grand Cru. Lingering creamy palate with grapey after taste.

UPDATED: SEP 20, 2011 08 bottle. Pours a nice dark reddish color with brownish notes and a beige head. Aroma is really sour and tart, balsamic vinegar, loads of dark fruits, cherries, sugary notes, oak and some caramel. Flavor is also quite sour and is intensly complex, lots of grapey vinous notes, balsamic vinegar, dark fruits, cherries, sugary notes, caramel and some red apple like notes. The body is medium with a dry mouthfeel. Overall a fantastic brew, im am so glad I got a bottle of this! One of my all time favorite Flemish Sours for sure!

Bottle (2008, barrel 96): Redish brown with a thin tan ring of head around the glass, aroma is tart with hints of the oak barrel, taste is sour, tart and acidic. I don’t have a regular Grand Cru to compare right now but I don’t feel this is significantly different than the regular one. Still very good.

750 ml bottle. 2008 version, barrel no. 96.
Pours a hazy reddish brown colour with a small slightly off-white head. Strong sour and fruity aroma of cherries and strawberries. Strong flavour of sour fruits such as cherries, strawberries, vanilla and also vinegar with warming oak notes. Full bodied, smooth bodied, decent carbonation and a long, warming, sour and quite strong finish of fruits. Top-notch sour ale and this clearly has aging potential.
