One either likes it or loathes it. I fall in the latter category, there simply is no way for me to like it.
3.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Tweeke (34) - Wageningen, NETHERLANDS - FEB 27, 2011
25cl bottle. Very sour smell, unripe fruit acidity. Not pleasant. Medium body with lively carbonation, fine bubble structure. Tastes a lot better than it smells, refreshing and nice aftertaste.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 crossovert (2527) - Wisconsin, USA - FEB 21, 2011
8.45 oz bottle, best before 1.07.08.
Pours a purplelish/reddish brown with a big foamy slightly off-white head that leaves a bit of lacing.
The smell is heavy on the vinegar along with sour cherry and a bit of oak.
The taste is pretty sweet with an overlying cherry tartness. Light vinegar in the taste but not as profound as in the smell. The oak is there but not overpowering.
The mouthfeel is a bit off, it is too watery for my liking.
I prefer the Grand Cru, this is an average Flanders Red, but It is cheap and easily available.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 HonusWagner (767) - Florida, USA - FEB 14, 2011
A nice example of the style and introduction to sour beers. Sweet slightly fruity malt dominates the palate (something a little like strawberries) and the tartness is mild enough to not overpower but present enough to excite the tongue. A worthy beer.

This is a Flemish red/sour ale, which seems different from other sours and lambics in which mouth-puckering sourness seems to be the key quality. These are sweeter and taste a lot like ciders - it is a great style, and I enjoy it a lot. This was a good example. Fresh, sour cider aroma with an underlying sweetness. Fairly plain brown pour. Malt and apple cider flavors dominate the taste. It is not too harsh or yeasty, and presents a well-balanced mix of flavors. It is a little thin, but I still enjoyed it a lot. I could see this becoming one of my go-to brews.
