3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Gypsy19 (728) - California, USA - FEB 22, 2010
750ml bottle. Pours a cloudy reddish-brown with a compact beige head. Aroma is quite interesting: Very fruity and tart, indeed I’m getting a lot a vinous aroma too, cheap bum wine, but not in a bad way. Flavor is initially a little cardboardy, then some floral perfumy flavors come in, subdued sourness. Not as sour as anticipated. There is a healthy serving of sweet ripe purple grapes in there as well which is really the highlight here. Very brief aftertaste, medium carbonation and viscosity. Not what I expected, but really good! It’s odd, but it all works together in the end. I will be having this again. Overall, excellent.

Very good and refreshing beer. It looks also very tastefull with the red color. Very fruity, but without fruits. Just like Michael Jackson said: this is the most refreshing beer in the world!

Redbrown colour, almost no head, yeasty aroma, a bit stale, like dough. A tiny bit fruity, sourish, bitter. Average finish, Nice beer, although I expected more from this one, maybe the palate isn’t distinct enough.

Dark reddish brown with a decent sized beige head. Flavor is a hint of woody vinegar and sweet malt. Flavor is balsamic vinegar and sweet, fruity malt. Woody, chocolatey, sour citrus finish. I’m still not a huge fan of sour ales but this is one of the better ones.

Pours a near-opaque muddy brown with a slight tan head. Aroma is sour with hints of fruit and vinegar. Flavor is actually quite light, refreshing even, but still complex with hints of wood and vinegar.

Actually rated this on June 24, 2009, but accidentally rated it on the Grand Cru. Since I’m now drinking the Grand Cru, figured it was time to put this one where it belongs and give the Grand Cru a proper rating.
Bottle. Pours a deep brown with a medium sized creamy beige head. Nice wood and a touch of chocolate, and some light funky notes. Medium bodied, with a little bit of chocolate, malt, and a touch of sweetness. Touch of light vinegar on the finish, mostly balsamic, and nice wood notes.
