3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Nik925 (584) - California, USA - AUG 12, 2009
Always enjoy popping the cork on a sour. The overwhelming flavor is the normal sourness, but then this one thins out. Good jam / fruit flavors and sourness, but not quite enough flavor on the finish. A bit more ABV would make this one much better. Also, the 75% new 25% old would be a lot better flipped. Much more restrained than what I remember from the grand cru.

UPDATED: SEP 16, 2009 3.1 250 ml bottle. From the Netherlands. BBE 28.08.08.
Dark reddish brown colour with small tan head. Sour aroma with sweet cherries and some vinegar. Sour, very sour and vinegar but not fruity at all. I don’t know if a year past the best before date made the difference but this is just sour. Maybe it needs a fresher one to finish this rating. This means a trip to Belgium...
3.8 And a fresh one in Belgium. 250 ml bottle. Antwerpen, Belgium.
Hazy dark reddish colour with small tan head. Sour cherry aroma. Sour cherry flavour with some sweetness in aftertaste. No vinegar. So the fresh one was better I think.

Muddy brown pour with thick tan head. Light drippy lace. Balsamic vinegar on the nose. Cherries, vinegar, and light brett. Slight oaky character.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Davros (919) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - JUL 29, 2009
Murky brown pour with ruby highlights. Big head, but lacking in persistence.
Aroma has lots of sour funk with sweet cherries and raspberries. Smells more like a lambic than a Flanders red. Nowhere near as sour/acidic as the Grand Cru.
Flavour reinforces the similarity to a lambic: quite musty, lots of sweet raspberries, some acidic bite. Quite a tangy finish. Very refreshing but too sweet.
Very light mouthfeel.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 GranvilleTim (955) - Granville, Illinois, USA - JUL 12, 2009
Red-brown pour with light tan head. Aroma is vinegar, sour. The vinegar flavor made me wonder about this beer until I had my first sip. It was good.It went well with my roasted turkey and wid rice I had for dinner. There was some woodiness in the background of the drink. I will continue my exploration of sours.

I liked the Grand Cru better. Pours cola brown with red highlights. Nose is balsalmic vinegar, cherries, musk, cloying sweetness, and tart acidity. Flavor is similar with cherries, vinegar, and a dark acidic bite. Sour cherry, balsalmic vinegar, and wine oak come through in this vinuous, medium-bodied sour.

Bottle. Very easy to drink and good introduction to the world of sour beers. It’s drinkable but it’s too sweet and lacks in complexity. A bit one dimensional. Could have used more funk.

Really enjoyed this sour....not overpowering, and very smooth. Not a funky taste, as a lot of sours have. Also, enjoyed this more than the Grand Cru. Very easy to drink. Sour cherries and toffee flavor, with a hint of oak. Dark brown, reddish color, beige head. Medium levels of carbonation. My favorite sour to date.
