Bottled from the Carrefour in Genk. Brown ruby color, thin, quickly demolishing beige head, sour nose. Aroma is acidic and sour, with some cherry hint and wooden flavour. Nicely composed beer from one of the lower shelves - to my surprise.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Sigmund (3495) - Hafrsfjord, NORWAY - JAN 29, 2009
250 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.2%. Very dark reddish brown colour, moderate beige head. Nice aroma of red wine vinegar, sour cherries and farmhouse kitchen. The flavour is moderately sweet and sour, notes of musty fruit, funk and red wine vinegar. Some oak in the finish, minimal hops. Not nearly as complex, powerful and interesting as the Grand Cru, but okay.

UPDATED: MAR 2, 2009 Bottle from DragonStout, thanks Brian. Pours a deep brown color with ruby highlights and an inch thick, light beige head that faded to a layer. Aroma of sour cherry, some musty, funky barnyard, and some cobweb-like yeast. Lightly sweet, moderately tart entry leads into a tart cherry hit with some dry, earthy oak that finishes with a lightly funky, cobwebby yeastiness and a dry oak bite. Low carbonation, but nice acidic and oak bite to improve mouthfeel. Easy drinking for a sour, but not overly complex.

5.1% Magnum bottle, best before date of 8/28/08; 75% fresh blended w/ 25% oak aged Rodenbach. Pours a murky, river water brown highlighted by an amber tint. Diminishing, fizzy head and small streaks of lacing. Dominant sour fruitiness, very tangy and sharp like a red wine vinegar. Tart and lively that is uniquely quenching. Medium bodied and sour. Tastes like a fizzy, tart, acidic wine with some noticeable mild malt flavor. Funky, earthy backbone coupled with sour cherries and grapes. Quite good, it’s an easy going sour and I had no problem enjoying the entire bottle. I do recall the Grand Cru being better than this standard sour.

UPDATED: NOV 22, 2009 330 ml bottle. Clear, reddish brown body with a fine creamy beige head. Aroma is cherry, malt and mild vinegar. Flavor is souring fruity and candy sugar with some subdues acidity. This is like a mild and sweeter version of the crand cru, nice but I prefer the grand. Still flavorfull and very refreshing.
