After drinking the king of sours, the bruery’s version, this is lackluster. Hopefully, the duchess is better.

Poured from a 11.2 oz bottle into a glass. Reddish brown color with a brown head. Has a delicate carbpmatopm with an initial light tart tast ending with a refreshing hint of lemon. Easy to drink sour beer.

Very classic sweet and sour brown beer. Right choice for beginners. Just a hint of aged woody oakiness and red wine vinous. Could drink everyday. Fresh and easy. Well balanced, not as sour as other beers of this style. Enjoyed every sip.

Not a fan at all. This was my first sour but I am probably the best sour critic.

Bottle from Kris Wines. This is like the entry level way into Flemish sweet and sour brown beers. Although it’s probably one of the originals too. Slightly cloudy reddish brown with a thin off white head. Nose is malt vinegar, sour green apples, funky yeast, subtle cherry, cider, red wine vinous. Taste is malt vinegar, apple vinegar, sweet brown apple flesh, cherry sweetness, tart lactobacillus sourness, little aged woody oakiness (not fresh but old wood), red wine vinous. It’s soft on the palate with a little more sweetness and less tartness than some of the more esoteric Flemish browns like the Grand Cru. I found this a bit subdued at first for my palate having been hardened on lambics and tarter Flemish browns, but it’s really growing on me. Nice everyday drinking Flemish brown. My only criticism is the body is a little more on the watery side.

330 ml can from Ammersin 5, Vienna.
Dark red, brownish, hazy body, with a medium, creamy, lacing, beige head.
Aroma of oak, funk, sour berries, cherries, overripe fruits, leather.
Taste is a bit light, fresh, with oak, sour berries, cherries, apples, some funk, earth, subtle sweet malts.
Medium, slick mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes smooth, moderate sour, with a lot of oak, some sour and ripe fruits.

Tasty. Very fresh and easy, with pleasant oak notes and sour fruits. Very well balanced, not as sour as other beers of this style.

Bottle from Dranken Verheyen in Poppel. The beer is clear red/brown with a small and unstable cream colored head, carbonation is average. The aroma is fruity with tones of cherries, but also a bitterness of malts is noticable. In the background you can even smell some oak. The taste is light bitter and light sour and some tones of cherries and oak are noticable. The finish is dry and intens.

0.25 l in Delirium Tremens @ Brussels. Looks like rose wine. Taste is sour but not too much. There is also somethin else. Not quite like red wine, but something similar.

From a can. Fine head, very fruity and thin, quite refreshing once you get used to it.

Live rating: 25 cl bottle served cool in a Hoegaarden Grand Cru tulip. Aroma is leather, vinegar and old trainer insole. Deep brown body, slightly hazy, with a creamy beige head. Sour apple flavour, some burnt cinder toffee, piquant fruitiness, and Lancashire cheese... mmm, mmm, mmm... even a tiny sip delivers a marvellous taste experience. Bitter sweet, medium bodied, astringent... tasty doesn’t do it justice.
