25 cl bottle @ bus, Belgium. Rated on 16.04.2009
Aroma is slightly tart with sweetish cherries and sugary notes. Flavour is slightly sour with cherry juice, some fruit sugar and currants. Too sweet and juicy, not very sour.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
11.2 oz. bottle, consumed on 7-14-15. Pours a nice, hazy, medium brown with a slight amber tint. Small to moderate amount of beige head. Looks good. Scents of tart apple, crabapple, cranberry, lemon, and chocolate. Lightly tart flavor. Subdued tartness for the style. I wouldn’t even call it sour. Quite malty in flavor. Applejack/calvados flavor. Not my favorite set of flavors. Light to medium body. Frothy in the palate. Insubstantial palate effects. Of historical importance and certainly not a bad beer but has been repeatedly eclipsed by superior, more modern, and more extreme takes on the style.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Brown/dark red, white small head. Aroma of red wine, wood/oak and some toasted/caramel malts. In taste sweet at first then low sour with vinous notes. Finish is dry, sour with oaky and red wine notes. I prefer Grand Cru version but this is quite nice too.

0.33l bottle. Clear dark ruby body, light brown head. Aroma of lemon juice, sour cherry, blackberry and a hint of red wine and oak. It’s very fruity, clean and smooth. Taste of caramel, sour cherry, lemon juice, red wine and balsamic vinegar. Medium body and carbonation, silky texture. Very nice.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
A wonderful deep purple tan, sharp mouthfeel with crisp bite. Strawberries, cherries, apricot smell. Lingering sour after taste, lemon and vinegar maybe? High carbonation makes extra tang

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle at La Tienda de la Cerveza. Wine aromas, hints of something that reminds me ketchup and mustard (vinegar and spices?). After some minutes also develops grainy notes. Good and refreshing acidity, soft cider flavors, again mustard hints with a good grainy background. I like it.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle shared with Rachel during the course of our eveing at Het Waterhuis in Ghent. Straight Rodenbach doesn’t travel nearly as much as it’s loftier brothers. Good to finally have a bottle. Pours Red Amber with a foamy off-White head. Aroma of fruity vinegar and sweet malt. I always find the flavour combinations in Flemmish Reds to be uite disarming. Tart and spoilt with a robust malty sweetness. Quite difficult to compute. I like it but I don’t find it moreish in the same way I would a Lambic.
