This was tasted side-by-side with its Nightporter/Baltic sister. And this is not as good as the sister. Not as balanced. It does have the lovely oily black colour, a bit less of a head, but just too boozy, too syrupy on the aroma and flavours, killing a bit of that lovely cocoa, dark berries, vanilla, peat and liquorice on the background. Not as easy to drink.

Bottle.Black with a small head. Chocolate in a backround with a mainly malty taste. Not as much strength as you would expect . Very pleasant but one to be supped. My first from Northern Ireland-what a good start.

Bottle from Prima Beer. Black with a small brown head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt, chocolate and licorice. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish with a little warming alcohol. Oily, soft and smooth. 030616

Bottle, courtesy of Benzai during EuroSwap 1/2016. Pours dark brown with a short-lived but beautiful head. An imperial porter that lives up to its style: Dark but not burnt, strong and heavy, yet not overdone. Caramel and toffee aroma, pleasant texture and carbonation. Only slightly boozy, but also nicely warming.

Bottled from Biernavigatie.nl. Opaque black, rusty brown colored lasting head. Massive roasted malts in aroma, coffee, molasses, licorice, "hopjesvla". Bittersweet flavor, earthy, lots of roasted malts, quite some bitterness from the hops, licorice, molasses, honey. Lasting malty and bitter finish, alcoholic. Very, vey impressive imperial porter.

Pours thickly to a good, amazingly coloured rusty-orange head, dense, over totally opaque, dark redbrown beer. Ashy, earthy, roasted; and a strange manure-like component - but not unpleasant. Quite dry-roasted, almost rust/oxyde-like, metalslag. Some salted drop. Again this earthy component, retronasal. Very well-bodied, visouc, alcoholwarming. Oily feel, good carbonation. Quite good.
