Bottle at Craig’s. Pours deep dark brown with a thin tan head. Aromas of coffee, dark cooked sugar, slight smokiness, light damp basement. Taste is more of the same, without the damp. Sweet coffee. Oily mouthfeel, sticky finish. Good.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught @ De Wildeman. Aroma is a bit odd with salty licorice and grainy tones. Also some fruits and ash. Flavour has salty licorice, strong herbal tones, tobacco and hints of ash. Also some odd bready feeling. Finishes with dark chocolate and cocoa. The herbal tones become almost unbearable at the end. Unusual.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
An almost black, non transparant beer with a dark brown layer of foam. The chocolate-like aroma comes along when the beer is being poured. A perfect taste of smoked or burned malt and/or barley, which moves on into a nice bitter aftertaste!

A dark brown beer with a tan head, head doesn’t last long but leaves a persistent lacing. Small is cherries and coffee. Taste is again the heavy sour and sweetness of cherries and the bitterness of dark chocolate. Quite a sticky feeling around the lips, bit low carbonated. The high ABV is hardly noticeable. Lovely beer, a real treat.

Tap at Wildeman, Amsterdam. Dark black with brown head. Chewy molasses, coffee, hint of liquorice. Feels like it has a kind of a fruity Belgian-tasting yeast influence perhaps. Decent but I don’t think it holds together perfectly. I definitely wouldn’t have guessed it was as high as 12% though.
