Small dark orange-tan head over virtually black beer. Smoked, smoked wood, salty, dark malts, even smoked mackerel. Smoked in the flavour as well, woody, bitter chocolate, burning logs. Very well-bodied, viscous, warming & rewarding. Iím impressed! This ranks easily amongst the best porters Iíve ever tasted.

Very good Porter. Simple taste of chocolate and a fine touch of bitterness make this a very tasteful beer. The best Bronckhorster has.

UPDATED: JUN 3, 2014 Bottle. Deep dark brown color. Almost opague. Pours a huge head. Dark chocolate, licorice and a hint of peat in the aroma. Malty sweet, roasty flavor with licorice and peat. Slightly yeasty aftertaste with initial licorice and persistant peat. A very pleasant surprise.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Almost black bodied, with an enormous head that generates brown floaties. Stroopsoldaatjes (Dutch carmael and butter candy)... Rich sweet toffee, caramel, dried figs, coffee beans, palm sugar and a hint of alcohol. Sweet, full taste, with a proper bitterness at the back. Oily mouth feel, with some fruity notes. A proper dessert beer! Well made. (33cl bottle, fairly priced)
