COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mahogany in color, Rook has a bold malt character with woody notes. Peat smoked malt creates a distinctive earthy Scottish flavor that complements English toffee notes. Ideally served at 50 - 55°F.

Smells like plastic. Dark mahogany color. Tastes like roasted malt and burned plastic. Palate too light of a mouth feel for a scottish ale.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with ruby hues and beige head. Aroma is very peaty with a hint of smoke. Flavor is a smokey, peaty bomb....as to this day, the strongest I have encountered with notes of toffee and malt in the back ground, has some sweetness. Medium body with medium-high carbonation. Overall, I really dig this beer!

Bottle from Errl. Thanks! Pretty mahogany brown. Peaty smoke dominates nose. Astringent peat, honey, malt. Interesting, much smoker than I expected. Different but not great representation of the style.

Draught at Jack Mac’s - cloudy ruby brown, fine offwhite almost pinkish bubbles. Nose of raisin, sweet malt, light peat, brown sugar, and bits of green apple. Taste is very bandaid forward, peat, smoke, sweet malt, most of the good characteristics from the nose, palate linger is also a bit undesirable.

Bomber poured a clear reddish brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of smoke, toffee and dark fruit. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of smoke, toffee and light dark fruit with a smooth lingering smokey finish.

Dark brown pour with an off-white head. The aroma is full of peat malt with a hint of dark fruit and a lot of toffee. The flavor is fairly similar. There is some cherry and grape notes as well as some peat, smoke and toffee. Woody tasting. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bottle:   Deep burnt caramel, small frothy sandy head, spotty lacing.   Peat and iodine on the nose.   Softer campfire and charred wood.   Can’t say I have smelled this much iodine since the Islay BA beer from Nogne O.   Strong peat and iodine on the tongue.   Campfire, ash, and charred wood are all second fiddle.   Those that like iodine or Islay Scotch will probably really enjoy this.   Thankfully its not overpowering.   Nice malt base.   A little sweet even.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   I am warming up to this one.   I just wished if it were to have that Islay flavor, that it would be as potent.   Not as sweet, caramel, or perhaps even as campfire/charred wood as most, but its entertaining and more importantly, different.   Thanks Bill!

(If you are a fan of smokey scotch, you’re going to love this one) Aroma of smoking peat, toasted malts, toffee, with hints of dark dried fruit. Pours a hazy brown with amber highlights and a none lasting tan head providing no lacing. The taste is overall on the bitter astringent side. (Pleasingly so.) A smokey peaty flavor initially, followed malts, woodiness, some bitter notes and just a hint of a sweet fruit finish. The aftertaste is peaty. Medium body with medium carbonation. Overall, this was a very nice surprise! Great aroma and a wonderful complex flavor. Should have bought two more bottles.
