Pours a murky brown into Duvel tulip glass. Aroma is of caramel, roasted nuts and citrus. Flavor is a lemon zesty and slightly soapy. A nutty and earthy malt profile. A sharp hit of cascade hops on the back of the throat. Really a full flavored beer that is quite complex for its lower abv.

Bottle split at the King and Castle, Tourist Town Central, thanks to the Wingman 17/03/15. Lightly hazed golden amber with a beige covering. Nose is caramel, bitter orange peel, toffee, hop tones. Taste comprises sticky toffee load, syrup, sweetish elements, brown sugar, hoppy pops, biscuit. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok amber with a hoppy trickle throughout.

Pours with little head retention and a bit of haziness. Aromas of caramel, roast, almonds, honey and red fruits. Taste is perfectly balanced between sweetness and bitterness, finishing bitter and malty. Medium-body. Cozy beer. Similar to anderson valley’s boont amber ale, but a bit more refined.

The beer I drank was imported into NZ in July 2014 so it’s the better part of a year old, which may explain the weak hop aroma. Sweet malt dominates with slight tartness of plums at the edges but it is possible after a few swirls to pick out a touch of orangey herbal hops. Taste is same. Thick and sweet up front thins across the palate finishes spicy, sweet and slightly metallic. Slightest touch of coffee in the after taste. If I can find a fresher example I’m willing to have another sniff.

pours cloudy dark golden, say amber, with a small yet reviving off-white-orange cap, some retention and lacing. fruity and peppery caramel - oranges, clementines; melanoidin - touch of roast/toast - toasted rye bread perhaps, woodsy cedar, but also light pine and pepper. light carbonation; light body - oily; balanced spicy-citrusy finish. quaffable and tasty amber.

15.5.2014. Dark amber colour, white head. Nice aroma of US ale with resin and earthy hops, malty sweetness. Flavour is lighter than expected, with biscuit, tea, earthy hops, a bit caramel sweet malts with some dryness also. Amber ale over average but too expensive in Alko.

average brown appearance. Smells of malt... Tastes more like a brown ale... not as hoppy as I expected. OK.

Pours a very carbonated reddish amber with a foamy head. Aroma is mostly sweet malt with some hops. Sweet malt taste with opposing hops taste. Seems like the right quantities of both, just mismatched on type. Mostly clean mouthfeel.
