pnista (894), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Apr 8, 2008 On tap at Rogue Ale House, Portland. Pours like the standard imperial red, though perhaps darker, reddish brown without much much of a head. The nose is unmistakeably full of Jack Daniels. Sweeter oak. Some stronger alcohol, with some vanilla. Deep down, the rounder malt is there, but the cherry, for instance of the oak comes out more. Hides the character. The mouthfeel may be slightly improved with more viscosity and lower CO2. (Not to mention this was served at a more appropriate temperature. The flavors are along the same lines. Big ass alcoholic whiskey laced with the Imperial Red. The bite of the tannic oak is stronger. As it warms, the beer takes back some ground. A good bit of crystal malt. A sipper that is definitely more whiskey than beer. Probably detracts more than helps the beer overall.
