Beard beer is brewed with a yeast created from Brewmaster John Maierís beard. No need to freak out, brewers have used wild yeasts in beer making for centuries. John has had the same old growth beard since 1978 and for over 15,000 brews, so it is no great surprise that a natural yeast ideal for brewing was discovered in his beard. What does bread beer taste like? try it, we think youíll be surprised...

Bottle. Pours a mostly clear light amber color with a moderate off-white head on it. Nose is light and fruity with some hints of grapes and apples in there. Taste is just a little bit sweet, but has a bit of a muddied cloudy finish to it, like something extra is mixed in.

The aroma is bready, spicy, and floral. I got a lot of clove in there but once the beer warms up a bit, some funky notes come out showing its true origin as a wild yeast. It pours a cloudy yellow color with light head. The taste is lightly sweet but finishes a little more bitter with some very interesting spice notes rounding out the flavor. The body was light to medium bodied, moderate carbonation, and left a lingering bitterness on the palate. This is really more a wild ale than a Belgian, some of the unrefined funkiness does come out once it warms up a bit. Regardless I enjoyed the spicy quality it brought to the flavor.

From 22oz bottle. Was suggested by a beer vendor of good repute - try it and let me know what you think... Aroma and taste of a really good lager, with maybe a touch of Scottish ale. Interesting beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a hazy golden orange from the bottle with fluffy off-white head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma is Belgian yeast, peppery esters, and a hint of floral back end. Taste follows with a lemon sweetness in the middle. Not bad, interesting; weird to think Iím drinking part of this guyís beard.

22oz bottle. hazy gold beer with a swirling, angry, carbonation bubbles and a small, stable white head. aroma of tropical pineapple fruity hops, vanilla, lemon. a dry finishing beer with a clean aftertaste. the aggressive carbonation appearance in the glass actually palates quite nice. flavor is lightly sweet from cakey, doughy, malt flavors and tropical hop notes and yeast. who knew maiers beard was belgian! turns out really good.

Bottle:   Dark straw, golden hue, thin to moderate sudsy white head, little lacing.   Soft bready nose, a little musty, doughy, and yeasty.   Bready up front, a little mealy, light to moderate sweetness.   Seems like a very dull Belgian Golden.   A bit flat on the tongue, body and moutfheel are moderate.   Very faint honey like sweetness.   Lingering mealy, yeasty, and doughy characteristics.   Not bright or bubbley, so donít be looking to it for that.   Moreso flatter, a bit more chewy, with doughy notes.   Tiz okay.

Pint on tap. Hazy orange-golden with a small ring of cream. Nose is a bit of funk with sourish lemon and toasted bread. Tastes the same at first, but as I get halfway through some light fruit notes come in and round this into a mild fruity, Wit-like character. Light-medium body is balanced and has a little acidic tingle along with a smooth, average level of carbonation.
