Beard beer is brewed with a yeast created from Brewmaster John Maier’s beard. No need to freak out, brewers have used wild yeasts in beer making for centuries. John has had the same old growth beard since 1978 and for over 15,000 brews, so it is no great surprise that a natural yeast ideal for brewing was discovered in his beard. What does beard beer taste like? try it, we think you’ll be surprised...

I can’t place the aroma. Nothing real special. Color is a cloudy orange-ish color with a lasting offwhite lacing. Taste is a bit citrus fruity and floral. Some hops there. I believe some spice too. There is a lasting tingle on the tip of the tongue which I oddly find pleasant. Overall this is a unique beer in concept, and it is a drinkable beer - but it is a type you try for the uniqueness and not one that will be bought again. If it was given to me, yes, I will drink it any time. There are just better beers out there for the price.

Bottle, Beer Moth, Manchester. Orangey gold pour with a meek white head. Fairly fragrant nose of yeast, fruits, hair salon and a little funk. Quite lively carbonation. Flavour followed in the footsteps of the nose with some vague bitterness and was ultimately rather dull. Underwhelmed.

Tried at Stockholm Beer And Whiskey festival. Bottled. Like most Rouge beers a good stable brew that doesn’t really blow me away though.

On tap at the Kings Arms Bethnal Green. Clear gold lasting white head. Some strong peachy esters. It’s a decent interpretation but like all Rogue beers its turned up to 100. Hoppy on the finish. Decent

Bottle sample at tasting at Levi’s place. Thanks Levi. Clear golden with an off-white head. Fruity and yeasty aroma with spicy notes, a funky hint and light candy-ish notes. Sweetish flavor with fruits, yeast, malt and a drier and slightly spicy finish. Medium-bodied.

Light aroma of stone fruit. Taste of peaches, stone fruit and grass with a nice hop balance. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear orange yellow in color... Aroma of Belgian candi sugar, citrus fruits... Flavor is smooth, creamy golden malts, light yeast on finish... Nothing terribly exciting ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Farm ale like in flavor. Belgian farm ale is best way to describe this. I actually had an allergic reaction to this beer. Made my throat scratchy. Some belgian yeast do this... this would be the same for me. Nice in flavor and easy drinking for ABV.

(bottle - 22 oz) Been looking forward to this one for a while. Cloudy orange pour with a fizzy white head. Mild aroma but had definite hints of spice and yeast. Lightly fruity flavor with a spicy Belgian yeast taste and a light fruit sweetness at the finish. Really nice. I’d drink it again if I saw it.
