Beard beer is brewed with a yeast created from Brewmaster John Maier’s beard. No need to freak out, brewers have used wild yeasts in beer making for centuries. John has had the same old growth beard since 1978 and for over 15,000 brews, so it is no great surprise that a natural yeast ideal for brewing was discovered in his beard. What does beard beer taste like? try it, we think you’ll be surprised...

too unique a concept to pass up. Pours slightly orange gold with a medium head. Light yeasty aroma. Taste is yeasty, some cloves. Not bad.

Bottle sample as a bonus beer at the Belgian Strong Ale tasting at Blacklick Wine & Spirits on 4/3/14. Clear gold to amber pour with a medium off-white head. Aroma of malt, corn, cereal and slight hop. Malty and piney flavor with slight citrus before a bland finish.

Thanks for sharing, bro! Light Belgian yeast aroma. Taste is much the same, easily drinkable. Better than expected!

Cloudy amber, no head. Aroma is slightly corny, hint of wheat, doughy bread and some sour cherries. Light vague fishiness as well. Taste is much better, with malt at the front, light balanced hop and a light sour on the finish. Some clovey spice and ester notes there too. Soft carbonation and medium body. Okay beer but nothing to knock your socks off.

Hazy orange light soapy head. Play-dough aromas. Light spiced with malts and yeasts all mashed together.

Interesting concept. Aroma of light Belgian yeasty and all of its fruity esters, but a bit more subdued. Not over the too sweet, very well balanced and highly drinkable for the style. Pretty much a gimmick but well done regardless.

Pours a hazy golden orange with small white head. Aroma is belgian yeast, citrus, fruit, floral hops and some funk. Round and fruity mouth feel with medium carbonation. Aftertaste is Citrus, berries, malt, some floral hops and lasting spicy belgian finish. Overall: Well brewed, but also boring and weird. Everytime i started enjoying it, i pictured the man on the label going:"yes,YES! ENJOY THAT SHIT!"

I can’t place the aroma. Nothing real special. Color is a cloudy orange-ish color with a lasting offwhite lacing. Taste is a bit citrus fruity and floral. Some hops there. I believe some spice too. There is a lasting tingle on the tip of the tongue which I oddly find pleasant. Overall this is a unique beer in concept, and it is a drinkable beer - but it is a type you try for the uniqueness and not one that will be bought again. If it was given to me, yes, I will drink it any time. There are just better beers out there for the price.
