Beard beer is brewed with a yeast created from Brewmaster John Maier’s beard. No need to freak out, brewers have used wild yeasts in beer making for centuries. John has had the same old growth beard since 1978 and for over 15,000 brews, so it is no great surprise that a natural yeast ideal for brewing was discovered in his beard. What does beard beer taste like? try it, we think you’ll be surprised...

Bottle. Pours a clear gold body under a larger frothy white head that grew rather large from all the carbonation. The nose is light and delicate with some light Belgian yeast, floral hops, pale malt, and a bit of fruitiness. The flavor is pretty light and rather bland, some minimal floral hops, little to no bitterness, doughy pale malt, and a slight fruitiness on the finish. Light bodied and soft fizzy carbonation, this comes off as a bit thin overall. Pretty boring stuff, pass on this one if you’re thinking about it.

Deep golden color with a fluffy white head. Belgian sugar and bitter orange peel nose. Sweet belgian flavor with bitter orange peel and some spice. Didn’t notice much beard flavor.

"i’m not grossed out by this (hell, i love weasel shit beer) but that stuff has a point. this is a gimmick, and just a gimmick. Can’t say it was bad, but nothing special. Smells like a slightly wild belgian ale, bubble gum and spices. Yeast dominates. Slight sweet flavor. Thin body. Had a sample, and that was good enough :)"

Bottle @ home. Clear orange colour with a medium sized white head. Smells some grapefruit, slightly esters/alcohol, malts. Tastes slightly fruity, hint of sour, malts, not bad. Medium body, soft to medium carbo.

(Bottle) Clear golden with good off-white head. Reasonable aroma, very pils like with grassy, slightly grainy, slightly metallic hops. Light body, well carbonated. Tastes good - there’s quite a sweet base to the flavour - light biscuity malt with some honey notes. Overlaid on that is the hops which give some pleasant balance and a rather harsh finish. I detect some banana esters perhaps suggesting wild yeast. There’s some peppery spice in there too. Overall it’s very drinkable, especially for a novelty beer.

Nice color, frothy, though nose is overly sweet, taste follows. Not terrible.
