COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Beard beer is brewed with a yeast created from Brewmaster John Maier’s beard. No need to freak out, brewers have used wild yeasts in beer making for centuries. John has had the same old growth beard since 1978 and for over 15,000 brews, so it is no great surprise that a natural yeast ideal for brewing was discovered in his beard. What does beard beer taste like? try it, we think you’ll be surprised...

I think my wife wanted to throw up when I had her read the label on the back about the origin of this beer. Yes, inspired by head brewer’s beard and the "who-knows-what" that is found within. I feel like this isn’t a serious attempt of making anything great that will be around season after season. Plus what would they do once the guy with the beard moves on or passes on? Beer poured a medium, golden with little to no head. Aroma was musty, earthy with a bit of funk. Original sips were prickly on the lips due to medium+ carbonation. Taste reflected the aroma, on the funky side. It has a low IBU and wasn’t bitter at all. Viscosity was average. As I let the beer warm, it left more of a fruity aftertaste. Been there, tried that. Won’t be drinking this one again unless it was the only option.

Pours a golden color with a white head. Aroma is light of citrus hops with some wild yeast aroma and some lemon. Flavor is similar with mostly the citrus and lemon coming out. I wasn’t sure what to think of this brew but I was somewhat pleased.

Bottle from SJ. Notes of spice, bread, hop. Wasn’t much going on and the body was thin. It was ok.

Bomber bottle. Very nice Belgian aroma. Quite clear dark golden color, with a white head of tight bubbles, initially thick when poured. Mostly average taste, like a Belgian pale ale. Medium bodied. Overall a good beer, but nothing to go out of your way to get.

Bottle: The aroma is pretty minimal...maybe some sweet lemon and grass...but it’s barely there. It pours a hazy orange with with two finger white head that fades to a thin film outlined by a thicker ring. The flavor starts with light sweet cereal grains. The finish has light apple, grass, and faint grain. It’s light bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, I don’t like the apple flavors and I don’t understand what the goal was here. It’s not very good.

UPDATED: MAR 29, 2015 Bottle: Super cloudy, golden-orange buddy with a thick bubbled, off-white head. Smell is almost nonexistent. Faint musty cotton? Mild lemon? Weird plastic notes. Taste is plasticy, full of shitty cotton, mold, what the fuck is this crap. Fuck Rogue. This shit is fucken repugnant. They should have their goddamn brewing license revoked for putting this goddamn garbage juice on shelves. Son of a motherfucken bitch.

Maybe my love of facial hair makes me biased, or maybe it’s my love of sour beers, but this is a home run. Wonderful sour aroma without the acidic smell. Orange pour with a long lasting white head. Taste is great, not really sour but funky with a long complex aftertaste. Taste is bretty, yeasty, really good.
