Bottle. Pours black with tan head. Aroma is bourbon, vanilla, a little heat, sweet. Taste is bitter in the back and finish, medium to full-bodied, a drinkable barrel stout. Overall, good flavor, rich but drinkable, very good.

2.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 8/20
On tap, poured into a sampler glass. The aroma is bourbon caramel, with some noteable roasty, woody character. The beer’s body is dark and opaque and topped by a soapy, thick, tan ring head with a small island. Heavy lace is left along the glass. The taste is a medium high bitter and light medium sweet combination.
The viscous beer has a full malty and boozy body with a light and smooth carbonation. It’s remarkably dry with a woody and burnt flavor along with a light chocolate, coffee, caramel, and alcohol finish. The aftertaste is lingering with a waxy and bitter burnt woody character.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured from tap to glass. Dark hue with thick brown head that lingered. Aroma is toffee, chocolate, oak, coffee, roast, ethanol, slight cola, molasses. Mouthfeel is great with a medium body and soft carbonation. Taste is sweet (but not cloying) with a wood tannin dryness & ethanol finish. Overall this is a VERY nice brew, and is drinking well right now.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Fad: Sortbrun øl med et lille skumhoved. Duften er let fadlagret og let brændt. Smagen er bitter og integrerer ikke fadlagringen så øllen kommer ikke helt op at ringe. Ellers ok øl.

Very distinctive taste that may require an acquired taste! Very good beer overall. Pours a dark amber with very little bourbon aromas.

Oh so very good, and dare I say, worth the expensive price. Rogue never fails to impress me.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Rogue Brewers on the Bay, pours jet black with a small tan head. Aroma of big chocolate notes, subtle wood, and bready notes. Flavour is very robust and round, with loads of dry whiskey barrels, wood, and a touch of cocoa. Pretty barrel-dominated, also with some intruding sweetness that kicks in later on in the palate. The barrel aging is done well, leaving a slightly boozy, whiskey-dominated, slightly sweet finish. Great stuff in small quantities.

UPDATED: DEC 20, 2013 On tap at the Issaquah Brewhouse. Pours a brownish black color with thick tan head that leaves great lacing. Smells of Chocolate, smoked malt, roasted malt, caramel and oak. Tastes of the same things in the smell with the smoked malts shining through the most. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy and chewy with good carbonation. Wow I was very impressed. Has a lot of good flavor going on. It looked amazing in the glass, one of the best looking beers I?ve ever had on tap. Hopefully they still have some on tap in February when I go back for my birthday.
