3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from tap to glass. Nice brown with tan head that dissipated fairly quickly. Aroma is huge malt, caramel, slightly floral, vanilla, and wood. Medium bodied with a nice mouthfeel. Lightly carbonated with sweetness up front and light-bitterness following. Wood is evident but not yet fully melded together. This is a good brew right now and all the elements are there to be great, but could probably use a bit more time in the cellar in order for everything to marry together.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JUN 4, 2013 On tap at the Issaquah Brewhouse pours a muddy dark brown color with a decent off white head that leaves good lacing. Smells of chocolate, toffee, caramel, molasses, dark fruit and oak. Tastes like of all the same things in the smell and the oak is more apparent in the taste. Mouthfeel is heavy and oily with pretty good carbonation. Overall this was a really well done barrel aged strong ale. Everything was well balanced and the flavors all work well together.

They’ve made a dark barley wine. Lekker aroma, malt and fruit with a barrel tone. Malty flavour with no alcohol burn. Barrel notes. BTW I was told that the barrel had never held anything else, it is fresh oak. Malty finish. Worth drinking if you find it.

Everything a strong ale should be - highly malty and alcoholic. Light head with low retention, medium lacing. Good balance of malt and bittering hops, perhaps a tad more bitter than is typical for Scottish strong ales, but it works.
