2.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 Indra (2323) - Overland Park, Kansas, USA - OCT 16, 2007
Served on draft at the Flanders Rogue Public House in an interesting chalice style glass. Strongly fruity aroma, plenty of citrus, pine, bubblegum, and faintly doughy touches, the fruits tropical punch-like in nature with notes of cherry, apple and grapefruit, blended with plentiful malt sweetness, dark brown sugar, some faint roast and smoke here as well. Dark brown color, mostly opaque with mahogany highlights and a slight tan head. Flavor profile is hugely, shockingly bitter, the hops dominating from beginning to end, these massively piney and spicy. I’m not sure what the IBUs are, but this is the most bitter beer I can recall in recent memory. There is a touch of dry, roasty malts here and there, but these are pretty far in the background. Later, some light chocolate tones and very faint sweetness emerge, but the astringent grapefruit and other hop characteristics crush all beneath them. Resinous, drying mouthfeel with light-moderate effervescence and a fairly full body. Unfortunately, completely lacking in balance, this is dark hop juice. Highly disappointing. I couldn’t even finish the last 1/3 of the glass.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Angeloregon (2054) - Portland, Oregon, USA - OCT 2, 2007
Served on tap at Rogue Alehouse in NW Portland. Poured a deep brown-black-red with a small creamy off-white head. Boozy, nutty, chocolaty, boozy, gingery nose. Vinous notes with hints of cacao and smokiness. Hoppy and quite unique. Part barleywine, part porter/strong ale. Dry, musky, muddy finish. Easy to drink.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 raphael (623) - Portland, Oregon, USA - SEP 26, 2007
on tap at portland rogue. fine fresh hop aroma--green, resiny, unique. opaque slightly reddish brown w/ quick head. the malt builds slowly--caramel & burgundy, charred grain, smoke, the hops keep trying to reassert against the malt.the only clues this isn’t a barleywine is the clean mouthfeel, and the subdued alcohol flavor. a littel rough edge in the hop finish, & a little drying in the mouth.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Bradrcr (809) - Renton, Washington, USA - SEP 20, 2007
On draught at the Issaquah brewhouse. Aroma is hop forward, grassy and citrusy like an IPA. Appearance is dark brown, hazy, with a moderate retained light tan head. Flavor is hoppy, complex, with a low roast malt character. Mouthfeel is medium/high bodied with a medium carb feel for what seems like a low carbonated beer. Overall, fairly good, but just not to style.

On tap at Collins Pub.Dark brown w/ smal head. Hops dominate in the aroma and taste. Wonderful spicy fresh hop taste is right up my alley. Nicely balanced with just enough sweetness. Love it. Best brew I’ve had from Rogue in some time.

On tap at Mad Mex Cranberry. Aroma of roasted malt and a bit of hops and grass. Pour was a dark brown with a decent 2 finger tan head. Taste was a dark mix of chocolate, caramel and roasted malt with a semi dry hoppy finish. Very complex. I would love to try this in a bottle.
