Commercial Description:
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

650 mL Bottle. Murky amber body with a rocky white head that settles to a tenacious foamy layer lacing the sides of the glass generously and leaving "a set of foam ribs" down the side of the glass with every sip. Aroma is intense resiny pungent hops with malt and notes of floral, grapefruit, grass, and pine; absolutely delightful. I wouldn’t call the flavor brutal but it is a flavor bomb nonetheless: intense resiny hops are there yet they make way for a rich malt and grapefruit / apricot expression. Resiny hops with citrus and a spiciness to it speak up in the aftertaste followed by a resiny hop / citrus finish and a grapefruit rind linger. Hey America, you did it again with this one: this is good beer! Rogue Ales, I’ll be knocking on your door for more. Keep up the great work :D

12 oz bottle. Foggy amber with a creamy off-white head that settles to a float. Nose is spicy orange sherbet and pine. Sharp carb with a foamy mouthfeel; gets resiny. Starts with smooth orange pith and toffee. Then grapefruit peel with a dry minty finish and a peppery bite. Really good ESB.

I thought I had rated this one before, but I guess I haven’t; oh well. Anyways, nice thin head sitting on top. A nice translucent orange color with a slight hue of brown. Looks really good. Very nice taste. Slight malt sweetness mixed with a huge bittering hop that makes this beer extremely good. A fine taste; I just love how that bittering hop lingers. Aroma and taste are similar. Nice hoppy aroma with a great mix of malt sweetness to follow. This beer is really good, and I a glad I found a single because the $12 six pack price is a bit too rich for my blood. Palate could be a bit thicker, but the taste is just superb. Overall, a damn good ESB.

Cascade hops predominant....Mmmmm. Pours a nice copper colour, with an off white head. Clean palate, with good hop flavour & aroma. Well balanced. Nice.

A very nice aroma of cascade hops. A fairly hazy brown/red brew, but not too thick and not too much of any one colour, sort of an inbetween. Nice and thick on flavor, the hops are definately prevalent all the time with only some crystal malt flavouring. Quite nice.

Bouteille de 650ml, acheté au LCBO de Rideau et King edward (Ottawa) le 19 avril 2009. Cuivre pale, moyen collet. Arome d’agrume houblonné, pas très amère. Bon goût d’houblon mi-sucré, céréal muslique, agrume, légèrement amère. C’est rare que ce style est bonne et ça c’est l’une d’elle!
