COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

Bottle. Pours a hazy orange color with light yellow highlights, topped with a creamy eggshell-colored head. Aroma is sweet caramel, light pine hops, grass, brown sugar, and biscuits. Flavor is sweet grassy hops and bitter pine that fades to cane sugar and roasted dark malt. Smooth and creamy with relatively low carbonation and a dry finish. Some wispy white lacing remains on the glass. This is a nice balance between hops and malt, and a really nice brew.

650ml bottle. Pours a hazy amber, with a good sized off-white head. Huge fruity aroma. BIG hops, with a little caramel. Lemon, peach, passion fruit. The flavour is heavy with citrus, and resin. Slight sweetness. The finish is ALL bitter, with a little malt. Almost as good as their Yellow Snow IPA.

Mjollnir (322) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - MAR 22, 2010
355mL bottle. Pours an initially hazy gold with a small but dense and persistent head that thickly laces the glass. The hop aroma is floral and earthy with some citrus, tropical fruit and resin, backed by caramel from the malt. The flavour is a decent balance of sweetness and bitterness but otherwise fairly uneventful. Light-medium bodied, average carbonation and quite creamy with a drying bitter finish.

real good offering from Rogue. Not their best beer but a real strong ESB. had in bottle from Whole Foods

355 ml bottle. Dark amber colour. Crisp hoppy aroma with grass and citrus. Quite bitter as it enters the tongue. Body is medium and feels a little lacking given the hop bitterness. Nice nutty malty flavours. Overall a nice beer, but a little too much focused on the bittering hops.

(bottle) slightly cloudy orange amber, medium white head; beautiful fruity aroma; balanced bitter taste with long bitter finish - definitely an IPA or Imperial IPA and not ESB and a wonderful beer too

An old friend of mine right here. One of the most gorgeous brews you’ll ever see, copper-opaque with buck wild lacing. Hops and funk in the nose do not do justice the crispness of the flavor. One of the most refreshing brews ever. I wouldn’t call this an ESB, it is a gnarly hybrid that is probably closer to an IPA but defies classification. Rogue is a hit-or-miss brewery but years down the road I maintain this is their best offering.

Deep amber, very cloudy, pours with a 1-finger foamy white head. Very inviting beer by appearance. Aroma is very hoppy and meets expectation of the name. Soft carbonation, nice finish that lingers... very bitter. Good for when you want something of this class... not for everday/everybody.
