3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 KnutAlbert (4386) - Oslo, NORWAY - OCT 31, 2008
Bottle at Beer Palace, Oslo.
Cloudy amber, strong hoppy aroma.
Well balanced - full malty body, flowery and crisp hops. Dry summer meadow finish. Brutal? Hardly, but a fine beer.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 riversideAK (4381) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - OCT 4, 2007
Hazy orange copper color. No head. Earthy, grassy, lemon hops in the aroma. This tastes more like an IPA to me, but its got nice earthy sweet notes with some resiny citrus hops in the finish. Nice lingering bitterness in this one. As it gets warmer, more sweet caramel malt comes into play and it becomes more reminiscient of a bitter. Nice and drinkable. I would drink this frequently.

650 mL bottle. Clear golden honey color with fizzy white head. Aroma of hops and grain. Very bright palate. Sweet malty taste followed by a good bitter bite and a crisp finish.

Tap @ Summits. Orangey-copper color with a thin white head. Light citrusy hop aroma caramel malt underneath. Flavor is light on the malt with a fair amount of tangy hop acidity and a modertely bitter finish that is long and dry.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 after4ever (4314) - Brier, Washington, USA - SEP 3, 2010
22. Pours a hazy caramel amber with a towering sudsy white head. Decent bubbly lace coming down the sides of the glass. Mild nose caramel, toast, biscuit, grapefruit, and earth. Not very imaginative or forceful in the way of an aromatics profile, but not showing any flaws, either. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Caramel, toast, biscuit, and pine on the mid palate, with a very understated pine resin finish. Earlier Rating: 9/3/2007 Total Score: 3.9 22. Great little session beer without a doubt. Pours murky toffee-ish dark amber color, sudsy white head that falls to film before you get much of a chance to think about it. Occasional condensation-like drops of lace here and there on the way down. Modest nose; not much to say: some light pacman ale-y fruitiness, some little orange-y citric hop notes. Grainy medium body with active carb, plenty more fruity bits: hoppy orange pith, yeasty general fruitiness (hints of peach?), some light biscuit and very light grain husk notes. Quenching and strong enough to stand up to food--awesome utility beer. Jack Joyce couldn’t piss me off much more than he does given that I know him only as his occasional customer, but even despite that, I love this beer and need to grab it more often.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 blankboy (4288) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 7, 2006
Bottle. Pours a hazy amber with a small somewhat lasting foamy off-white head. Wonderful aroma of citrus hops, pine and enough caramel malt to balance things out. Juicy flavour follows the aroma and is very well balanced though not as bitter as the name would suggest. Medium bodied. A simple beer but a joy to drink, it’s so flavourful. Definitely one of the better ESBs and a great session beer.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 DuffMan (4242) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - DEC 10, 2006
Orange amber and very hazy, particularly with agitation at the end of the pour. Soft orange-cream head. Fresh grapefruit, apricot, and tangerine aromas jump out of the glass. Very fresh fruity citrus flavours up front are quickly twisted into an incredibly bitter finish that, perhaps surprisingly, is very pleasant and feels right. Once I got further into this and my palate re-calibrated, there was a definite soft earthy malt flavour as well. Very well made indeed.
