4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 MrRomero (1959) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - MAR 3, 2004
22oz Bottle: Poured orange with a thick white head. Hop filled aroma. Equally hop filled taste. This is a keeper. Not to be confused with English bitters, this is more of an IPA. Could use a little more malt but I like it just the way it is.

Bouteille de 650ml, acheté au LCBO de Rideau et King edward (Ottawa) le 19 avril 2009. Cuivre pale, moyen collet. Arome d’agrume houblonné, pas très amère. Bon goût d’houblon mi-sucré, céréal muslique, agrume, légèrement amère. C’est rare que ce style est bonne et ça c’est l’une d’elle!

Bottle. No matter how gently I poured, this thing had a monster head. 22 oz. bottle almost needed 4 pint glasses. Hazy golden brown. Lacing was monsterous as well. Aromas were heavy citrus. Lemon and orange. Flavors were defintily bitter. Hoppy. Not a big ESB fan, but this was alright.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 frankenkitty (1953) - Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA - JUL 21, 2006
Pours a thick-hazed copper/orange with some settling sediment and a creamy, 2-finger, off-white head that laces in sheets. Sweetbread aroma with lemon almost comes off as a cookie dough. Thick bodied with lingering lemon notes. Bitter tea flavor with a touch of honey and slight berry tartness. Brutal in the sense that the IBUs are stronger than an ESB normally suggests, but (and this will disappoint some folks) the hop content is by no means overwhelming. A very good beer with a misleading name.

hazy dark khaki color with a fat cream colored head. floral hop aroma strong bitter, and i can see how some would call it brutal, and i’m all for truth in advertising. this is bitter, but drinkable a bit acidic with a much milder finish, a well done one sided beer.

Great bitters from the huge hops. It’s called ’Brutal Bitter’ for a reason--you don’t like bitter, drink something else. Really no malts to speak of, but does have a nice color and manages a nice, fully body. A good one.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 MrManning (1942) - London, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 6, 2006
UPDATED: MAR 5, 2009 Bottle at Chaucer’s in London- This one is amber through and through. The head is unimpressive and fails to leave the lace I expect from most rogue beers. Strong grapefruit and citrus fruits in the nose, with some leafy/pine. Bad ass hop profile takes the fillings out yer’ teeth as it enters the mouth. Pine/grapefruit/oranges with a thin malt spine, finishing astringent and enjoyable. Yep, it is certainly bitter. A nice one.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Immy (1942) - Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA - FEB 3, 2008
Bomber. Lightly hazed orange amber with a thick off white head. Thich sheet of lace. Grapefruit and, to a lesser extent, orange nose. There is some caramel malt sweet behind it, but it’s the overwhelming citrus that is in your face. The malt makes a much stronger showing in the flavor which is, of course, "brutally" bitter, but more balanced than one would expect - the malt sweetness holds it’s own against the hop assault. Still, a bit of a one trick pony - it just happens to be a pretty damn good trick. Long bitter finish. Nice, and, as all Rogues not encased in ceramic, a good bargain.
