COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

Watch out Brits, Rogue’s giving you a run for your money with this beer! If they had this on a beer engine, it would be an example of divinity on earth. Poured with a creamy, yet frothy and foamy off-white head that lasts forever with loads of lace. Color is an amber hued copper. Aroma is very malty caramel with lots of hop in a mix of British and American hop fragrances. Enticing! Flavor is vedy, vedy British with perfectly complimentary American flavs - rich malt, toffee, caramel, hops, bittersweet. a slight bit toasty. Body is to die for: full yet not too heavy. Finish is just right so you want to have another sip. Session beer extraordinaire.

UPDATED: FEB 17, 2008 22oz bottle - Poured copper color with medium head. Aroma is lemony sour and also citrus with nice hop scent. Taste is sour like good lemonade and very smooth with suddle hop flavor. This is another great brew from Rogue Ales, not overly bitter like the label may say. I am rerating this beer due to the several Brutal Bitters I have been drinking lateley. This beer is very drinkable and finishing a 6 pac is no problem and has you wanting more. If you have not tried this beer, try it and you will not regret it.

Nice creamy head. Cloudy. Wonderful hoppy aroma. Flavorful with a clean bitter finish that begs for you to drink more! One of the best!

650 mL Bottle. Murky amber body with a rocky white head that settles to a tenacious foamy layer lacing the sides of the glass generously and leaving "a set of foam ribs" down the side of the glass with every sip. Aroma is intense resiny pungent hops with malt and notes of floral, grapefruit, grass, and pine; absolutely delightful. I wouldn’t call the flavor brutal but it is a flavor bomb nonetheless: intense resiny hops are there yet they make way for a rich malt and grapefruit / apricot expression. Resiny hops with citrus and a spiciness to it speak up in the aftertaste followed by a resiny hop / citrus finish and a grapefruit rind linger. Hey America, you did it again with this one: this is good beer! Rogue Ales, I’ll be knocking on your door for more. Keep up the great work :D

An old staple in the Rogue family and well deserved. Easy to find. Reliable solid bitter, hoppiness just right for what it is. Not a pale ale, but a cousin.

I’m normally a bigger fan of Imperial IPA, so this beer normally wouldn’t hit my sweet spot, but it sure did. The aroma, taste and overall impression were phenomenal. I cannot wait to try again!

This beer pours a cloudy orange-yellow with a very nice head for the style. Aroma is big with lots of hops but with a sweet floral and citrus fruit note as well. Taste is wonderful, hops and citrus fruits with a sweetness that balances the hops fantastically. Overall a wonderfully drinkable beer with great flavor
