COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

Fantastic american bitter. Dry without being overwhelmingly so, and very well balanced with an ample mouth feel. Perhaps a bit of citrus as would be expected with the hops. Great ESB.

Bottle This is simply a well balanced hoppy beer. If you want hops, this is good. Not nearly as challenging as the Arrogant Bastard, which is right up there with the killer hops. It’s a bitter, but from the west coast, so it’s got that character. It’s got the Rogue nose and palate. Very floral nose, a real bouquet of hops. Tight small bubbles, with limited lacing (though I just rinsed my glass so it may be a little slippery), smooth on the tongue, and nice lingering finish. I remember it being more brutal at the Rogue pub in San Francisco. In a bottle, it’s my comfort food

UPDATED: MAR 9, 2007 From the bottle into my own Rogue pint glass - Loved the hoppiness of this beer as well as the bitter (but not too bitter) finish. Something of a citrus hint in there somewhere too. Great with steak or just about any hearty meal. One of my favorites...

22oz bottle: Appearance: light hazy brown/orange with a foamy off white slow fading head, Aroma: citrus and floral hops, along with some pale malt backbone, Taste: Initial rush of bitterness followed by some citrus hops and some fruity notes.

UPDATED: JAN 17, 2012 Probably the best Rogue ale I’ve had. A hop explosion that isn’t too over the top, it really is a hard beer to categorize, but a great ale none the less.

650 ml bomber from "A tutta birra". Served into a snifter. Pours a beautiful cloudy sunrise orange, with a big big fluffy off.white head. Rogue beers are very hard to find in Italy, and this bottle was the last one from the one and only store that carries them, so I’m pretty sure this is not a very fresh bottle. So the hoppy aroma is not very intense, but still present. Very nice bitterness in the mouth, but nothing too extreme. Very balanced malts flavours. Overall this is a very solid IPA’s, one of my favourites at the moment and perfect for an hot summer day. Too bad I will probably not find another bottle in the near future..
