COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

A fine IPA from lovely Oregon. Herbal, resin hops, biscuit and caramel malts and some earthiness waft up from this coppery quaff, ivory topped, lacing champion. Beauty! The mix of hops and malts is unlike anything I have had before, it is funny they call it Brutal (although I love the name) since it seems more on the mellow side of hop aggression. It’s very balanced but the hopping and malts are not what’d you expect from the name and style. The body is great, medium and chewy with a great aftertaste of citrus and resin hops. Lots of biscuit malt flavour in here too. Maybe the brutality comes from being sneaked up on.

Bottle: Clear, dark amber with a sudsy, off-white head. Caramel malt, wood-polish scent. Taste is earthy/nutty caramel malt.... I get the brown ale feel to it, but the hopping lends to a slightly chemical note. Malty, wood and earth tones.... Just didn’t enjoy this.

Brutal Bitter: "bigger than your average bitter, which is nice, but i’m not sure if i a) don’t like the malt combination b) don’t like the hop combo or c) got an old one. i thought i remembered this beer being better, but i was sorely disappointed last night. not thin, but bland. smelled musty. "

A nice beer, the goodness underneath is overwhelmed by the malty taste of the brewn. Still a very good beer!

Not brutal at all, slightly sweet brown ale notes. Hops compliment the malts quite nicely, with some background bitterness. Easy drinker.

Poured from an enormous bottle at California Pizza Kitchen. Large frothy head well lasting. Sweet aroma, floral. Cloudy orange color. Acidic taste. Smells better than it tastes

Tap@kampela. Darker orange, hazy. Light grainy malty, bit autumny leafy pine woodsly nose. Sour oranges, real bitter, almost astringent finish. Lots of flavour. Not that smooth though. Dark caramel (almost barley winey notes!), bitter herby. Had better, drinkable still.

I expect a certain level once an IPA has the word "mega", "uber", "hop", or- I suppose- "brutal." It doesn't reach that level. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Color cobre con espuma marfil. Aromas de maltas, frutales, mandarina. Cuerpo medio, textura maltosa, inicio dulce, malta, lupulo ligeramente picante y afrutado, final de amargor moderado y algo seco. Buena.
