Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

A shimmering gold colour with a pale yellow head. The aroma is sharp and citrusy, giving you the expectation of a similar taste and it doesn’t disappoint. It is smooth on the tongue, sharp and slightly bitter, but citrusy and fresh, leaving a refreshing, clean feel.

Pours haze golden amber, with unstable white creamy head. Aroma: alcogol is not noticable. Crystal hop give gorgeous aroma of tropical fruits (papaya, lychee, mango). Flavor: taste is mouth feel, sweet, slightly bready, toast (reason is problably of cara wheat). Body is soft, malt sweetness medium, hop bitterness also. Finish is dry, carbonation is low.

Dark copper beer, opaque with a nice bubbly head. Smell is bitter citrus and pine, resin. Touch of orange peel. Cheese and cherries. Taste is bitter with a hint of heavy sweetness. Warm orange with... egg? Nice full taste with a refreshing finish,

Taster at AEON Liquor. Mostly rich orange and caramel, herbal notes, a bit boozy, bitter finish. Fairly hoppy and drinkable, decent stuff.

Bottle at The Roebuck, Leek (Titanic) A hazy pale amber with a fizzy white head. Aroma is quiet sweet of wheat, caramel, some straw, orange marmalade, grapefruit, maybe honey and floral hops. Taste of orange marmalade, grapefruit, caramel, some wheat, a little honey, pine and slight floral hops. Medium bodied and moderate carbonation. A bittersweet, caramelly, citrus hop bitterness in the finish. It’s not brutal but it’s pleasant and really well balanced. Isn’t different but a good IPA

Bottle from Omihachiman Aeon. Really cloudy gold-copper, small head. Orange and caramel aroma. Tastes initially sweet from the caramel malt but the orangey hops give it a great bitter finish.

Piney, citrus taste. Almost oily texture. A hint of bitterness. Pretty average.
