Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

Poured from a 22oz into a small goblet with a light foamy head (that quickly dissipated). Light and mellow citrus aroma with sweet malty backbone. Drinks with medium carbonation and a medium body. Smoothly bittersweet with burnt sugar notes. Mild bitterness lingers but not much. I'd come back for another. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This is a great Oregon IPA. Poured out of a 22oz bottle. Great aroma and perfect appearance. Smooth taste with just enough of a piney finish that isn't over powering, though it does last on the palate. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Rogue SF. It pours a nice orange gold color with a very creamy creamsicle colored head. The aroma has some touches of honey, orange, lemon and big floral and herbal hops. The flavor is crisp and floral with more orange and lemony herbs. Solid bitterness in the finish. Smooth on the palate and rather full bodied, but not sweet. Very good stuff.

Bottle. Pours clear amber with a decent frothy to creamy head that leaves excellent lacing. Faint aroma of caramel and floral hops. Lightly bitter, medium sweet taste in a light to medium body, lively carbonation and a light bitter and sweet finish.
