COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

Bottle from the LCBO. Hopefully I can pick a few more of these up. Along with Central City’s Red Racer (British Columbia), Southern Tier’s 2XIPA, and Bellwood’s Witchshark DIPA, this has to be one of my favourite IPAs (OK, two of those were imperial IPAs but whatever). Great deep orange colour, not much in terms of head and it dissipates quickly. Aroma is sweet and floral hops. Flavour follows suit, though the hops are a little bit more mellow than the aroma might suggest. Still, this features lots of flavour from the hops, with some lighter fruits underneath: peaches, apricots, citrus fruits. Overall a really great beer.

Mahogany pour, lots of white head. Aroma is light. Wheat, hops, malt, earth. Flavor is hopped up but not too bitter and still earthy. Medium mouthfeel. Clean and refreshing for an IPA.

650ml bottle. Hop Hideout, Sheffield. Just about clear, light bronze colour. Film of white head. Decent balance of sweet, toasty malts, and light, orangey hop, but I wouldn’t say it was brutal. Some grassiness. Slightly earthy. Taste has a light, malty sweetness, turning moderate bitter. Palate is a little oily, and quite smooth. Finishes light, long bitter. Very drinkable, but not one to get too excited about.

Not much hits the nose from the glass but the taste is super. Got citrus, a bit of orange, mandarin. Some caramel malt maybe dash of honey halfway through. Doesn't smash palate. 650ml, 6.2%, 3.2std drks. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
