3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
I have just finished writing a lament in my last review about an attempt by a mainstream brewer to enter the craft market with the common denominator ethos regarding flavour. It just doesn’t work. As a panacea to my malaise, I reached for two of the hoppiest things I could find. This being one:
A lovely rosy gold colour with a determined white fluffy head that left good lace around the glass. Aromas of Seville orange marmalade, tangerine, orange blossom and pine amber. Smells good enough to eat, or at the very least, smear on your toast. Good carbonation and then the beginnings, middle and more middle of hoppy bitterness. Again it is an expression of the citrussy arts with a few cameos of apricot flesh. The bitterness was actually fairly soft on the palate leaving me wondering why it is called Brutal at all? It isn’t. It is like a gorgeous long-limbed strawberry-blonde beauty cavorting in a field in a long summery dress picking flowers and chasing butterflies. Brutal it is not. Tasty it is.

3.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Slightly imbalanced IPA. Some hops, nowhere near as much as even the mildest Stone Ale. Not bad.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Frothy white head. Stone fruit and grapefruit in the nose. Medium body with moderate hoppiness. Just a standard middle of the raid, but decent PNW ipa

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours a bit hazy, nice amber, modest foam. Aroma is quite thick and malty, hops actually feel a bit faded. Which does not make the beer worse for me, but I guess it would taste a bit different when totally fresh. Taste is agressively bitter, malt body still dominating, giving the bee somewhat bready feeling. Aftertaste also having some long lingering bitterness. Good IPA, not too special or too amazing though.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Large Format - Cloudy orange color, big thick head when poured. Typical IPA smell, not very distinctive at all. Good hop flavor but not over powering or dry at all, not much bitterness either. Just a decent middle of the road, non-offensive IPA.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Soft amber pour, no real head. Nose is woody hops and malt. Bitter. Middle is soft fruit and malt interplay...subtle. Finish is solid, but restrained, hop bitterness. Not brutal, just delicious.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Drinkmonger. Hazy amber body with a thin off-white head. Lively carbonation. Light lacing. Aroma of caramel, green apple and orange. Flavour of sweet tangerine, menthol and pine needles. Medium body with an oily texture. Soft fizz. Unlike the name suggests, this is quite a restrained IPA that’s high on drinkability.
