dpjuart (670), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 22, 2008 22 oz MOrimoto Soba Ale, split/courtesy of Naka. Pours Golden w/ amber hues, however so light. Small white head that’s quickly dissipating. Where the hell does the smell come from? Coffe and chocolate, espresso. Taste is crazy; chocolate w/ a hint of coffee and nutty. Awesome thin, light mouthfeel, oily and viscous (I know, conradictory: Really good "ale". Mild hop bitterness at the end, supdued at the end by the graininess. Very good beer.
Cletus (4314), Connecticut, USA Jun 23, 2009 Pours gold with a nice white head. Smells of sweet malt, dry, perfumy. Tastes refreshing and floral dry with a nice crispness on the finish. lithy (1187), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jun 22, 2009 Hazy orange with a thin white head. Aroma is musty wheat, coriander, spice, orange zest. Taste is the same, zesty coriander, orange zest and grapefruit. yesyouam (505), Fairport, New York, USA Jun 15, 2009 Morimoto Soba Ale is a sparkling, hazy, golden ale with a bubbly white head that fades and leaves nice lacing. It has a citrusy aroma, like orange and wheat. It’s medium-light bodied and fluffy. It feels almost ashy. The citrusy element is present, but the toasted flavor is really the focus. The finish is almost... salty and umami. This is unique and pleasant. joshwilfong (715), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Jun 9, 2009 crystal and golden with large white head. mild spicy nose. flavor is clean with a surprising toastiness, that apparently is from roasted soba, which dominates the brew. very mild hop bitterness. an unusual beer, one whose style i am not famaliar with robertjm (363), El Cerrito, California, USA Jun 9, 2009 Foamy white head. Body is cloudy yellow body. Delicate aroma. Flavor has an almost peach-like quality to it. Light hoppiness to it. Very nice lightweight bodied beer. Thank you Iron Chef!! HonkeyBra (1023), Lemont, Illinois, USA May 31, 2009 Deep orange pour with white bubbly head. Smells like some kind of vegetable, a bit of caramel. Flavor of vegetable wheat, grass. Kind of light and fresh. Nice carbonation, medium mouthfeel. Too much like vegetables. lgklotet (416), Singapore, Singapore May 31, 2009 Bottle. "Soba Biru" printed in Japanese. It’s not everyday that you run across Rogue beers in Singapore, so naturally I had my hopes set high. Crystal malt obvious in aroma (as with many Rouge beers I think). Some hops detectable. Obviously I’m looking for the soba to shine through, and I’m hard pressed to say that I noticed anything buckwheat or noodle-like. There’s a slight tang maybe, reminiscent of wheat, but as far as my palate could detect, that was it. A little disappointed I leave the empty bottle on my counter and an hours later as I rinse it out for recycling - there it is! Big Big Soba noodle aroma.. Cool! kuphish (79), Bloomington, Indiana, USA May 28, 2009 Bomber. Pours a large, frothy-rocky, off-white, lasting head. Murky, golden colored body. Pleasantly heavy malt aroma of sweet cereal and wheat accompanied by white grape, pear and faint peach with a touch of raisin. Aromas persist in the flavor profile and are accompanied by a touch of raisin. A little tapioca comes through upon exhalation. Light body with average carbonation. Moderately sweet with a clean, lightly bitter finish. Very enjoyable.
