dpjuart (670), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 22, 2008 22 oz MOrimoto Soba Ale, split/courtesy of Naka. Pours Golden w/ amber hues, however so light. Small white head that’s quickly dissipating. Where the hell does the smell come from? Coffe and chocolate, espresso. Taste is crazy; chocolate w/ a hint of coffee and nutty. Awesome thin, light mouthfeel, oily and viscous (I know, conradictory: Really good "ale". Mild hop bitterness at the end, supdued at the end by the graininess. Very good beer.
thornecb (1737), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Oct 31, 2009 Pours gold into a shaker. Bright white head recedes to mottle surface. Rice aromas. Sweet and dry with distinct soba flavors. Lasting mild bitter caramel finish. tomthompson89 (1460), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 25, 2009 orange pour white head nose is citrus some bread flavor is bitter with an odd flavor i can only guess is the soba good but odd... mjs (1446), Helsinki, Finland Oct 25, 2009 (Draught) Poured golden and almost clear. Head was medium sized and white. Aroma was dominated by lightly roasted sugar. Palate was very light and dry with medium carbonation. Malts, sweetness, grass and bitterness were the flavours. Bitterness and sugar in aftertaste. blklab2007 (943), Connecticut, USA Oct 23, 2009 bottle poured a caramel golden color with a thin white head. aroma has wheat, grains, wet hay, caramel, and yeast. mouth feel is light but has an odd thickness. flavor has hay, burlap, caramel, yeast, and odd sweetness. there is a buttery thing that is a little odd in this one. BeerChaser0078 (291), Melbourne, Australia Oct 22, 2009 Bottle (As Buckwheat Ale). Pours clear gold with a short lasting white head. Aroma is kinda strange: mainly grain and a bit of honey but with some subtle undertones of bubblegum, cough syrup and spice. Flavour is also fairly grainy with hints of citrus, almonds and biscuity malt. Though there is a noticeable hop presence, it is very slight compared to a lot of Rogue ales. Light to medium body with a slightly bitter finish that lingers for a while. Not the best from Rogue but drinkable nonetheless. Leighton (234), New York, New York, USA Oct 16, 2009 Updated: Oct 26, 2009An interesting brew, had on tap at Rattle n Hum in NYC. Poured a hazy, pale gold with a foamy off-white head. Nose of roasted malts with nutty notes. Flavor was creamy, buttery, with - what I thought tasted like - flourishes of sour cream and onion. As I said: interesting. Chewy, smooth. Rich finish. Not bad. patrickfannon (274), Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 11, 2009 Bottle. 22 oz. Pours hazy brown with a biege, foamy head. Aroma of walnuts, caramel, malts, and hints of spice.
