Love the theme of the beer. From the bomber. More carbonated than I anticipated for the style of the beer. Can definitely taste the chocolate malt. Nice complex flavors and balance. A bit of a tinny aftertaste. I don't see a date on this bottle. Shame on Rogue for not dating (unless I missed it). ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Great reddish brown appearance w/ small amount of foamy head. Smell of floral notes, malt, with a touch of hops. Quite bitter, pretty strong on the hops, some citrus, not very complex.

Bottle, 650ml. A cloudy brown beer with a lot of sediments and a small brown head. Aroma is of dried fruits. Taste is bitter with a strange aftertaste that reminds me of malt, spices and dirt. Medium bodied with considerable carbonation and astringency. Very unusual IPA with none of the traditional hoppy character.

Bottle, 650ml. Opaque brownish with a frothy tan head and visibile sediment. Musky caramel and floral hop aromas. Medium bodied with moderate to fizzy carbonation. Dry and oily, with low to no sweetness and a stinging fruity bitterness. Intense spicy character and astringency. Harsh with very rooty flavors. Unusual ale, not unpleasant but not the most drinkable. Reminds me of cheap whisky watered down with mineral water.

On tap at the sf brewery tap. Clear orange amber coloured pour with a lasting creamy head. Aroma is fruity berry, passion fruit, caramel biscuit, jammy berry, grainy. Flavour is composed of toasted brown malts, burnt sugar, berry, assertive back of the throat bitterness. Some brown sugars and jammy fruit linger. Good lace. Slight metallic note. Harsh bitterness. Palate is semi sweet, moderate carbonation, slightly sticky.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; hazy amber pour with a big frothy beige head, aroma has robust malts and some red fruits, taste has sweet caramel, some peach, bready malts, expecting more hop action.

650ml bottle from Lee’s Discount Liquor store. Muddy dark brown, big foamy beige head. Toffee hop aroma. Flowery caramel hop flavour. Sweet caramel aftertaste. Quite sweet for an IPA but it works quite well.

Had this one watching the Deadliest Catch. Clear dark amber color with a small light tan head. Dark hops, moderate bitterness, sweetness and darkish maltiness in the aroma. The flavor is strong dark hops, moderate bitterness, some harshness and sweet maltiness.

I haven’t had enough Northwestern style hoppy ales to be convinced that the style deserves its own category, but if I keep having examples as tasty as Captain Sig’s, I’ll happily become an advocate for legitimizing the style. Rich, sweet malts mixed with earthy, citrusy hops. The balance between caramel sweetness and spicy bitterness is done quite smartly. Plus, that’s an awesome bottle.
