3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. The pour was a hazy medium brown with an average (1-2 finger) light tan creamy head that lasted a good while, reducing to a thick residue and had nice sheets of lacing.
The aroma was a tad sweet with a grain malt, pine and citrus hops and a sweaty yeast, with notes of caramel, citrus (grapefruit & orange) and a mild fruity ester in that rested in the background.
The taste malty sweet with a big dose of caramel and a mild fruity presence in the beginning, then slowly progressed into a mildly hoppy taste with a bitter citrus peel finish. The flavor was short in duration with a mild bitter-sweet citrus taste left behind.
Mouthfeel was right between light and medium in body with a dry creamy texture and a soft carbonation.
Overall a very impressive brew with a great caramel sweetness which offset the hops extremely well...

I haven’t had enough Northwestern style hoppy ales to be convinced that the style deserves its own category, but if I keep having examples as tasty as Captain Sig’s, I’ll happily become an advocate for legitimizing the style. Rich, sweet malts mixed with earthy, citrusy hops. The balance between caramel sweetness and spicy bitterness is done quite smartly. Plus, that’s an awesome bottle.

Draft at Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a reddish brown with a frothy white head and lots of clingy lace. The aroma is ripe citrus, light floral, light herbal. The flavour is moderate bitter sweet with a smooth, rich, fruity, yeast, alcoholic, bitter hop, light chocolate palate and la ingering alcoholic bitter finish. It tastes much stronger than it is.

Cloudy rusty red/brown with frothy off white head. Dark fruit and grassy hops on the nose. Taste- the bitter grassy and slightly spicy hops hit you first followed by and fairly rich caramel molasses malt. Some raisiny plum fruit is also there too. Very nice ale.

This beer was interesting in the fact that the color was much different than other beers it was cloudy and light red. The beer was great and a nice mix of IPA and red ale.
