Dedicated to Spanish author Juan de la Cueva, who, in 1575, wrote of a Mexican dish that combined seedless chipotles with beer: Chipotle Ale is based on Rogue’s Oregon Golden Ale, but delicately spiced with smoked chipotle chile peppers. Deep golden in color with a tight head, rich malty aroma, delicately smooth and crisp flavor, and subtle chipotle chili finish. Formerly known and packages as Mexicali Rogue, Chipotle Ale is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, and Maier Munich Malts; Willamette and Cascade hops; and Smoked Jalapeno (Chipolte) Peppers. Chipotle Ale is targeted for spring release and available in a 22-ounce bottle and on draft. Blend it with Rogue Chocolate Stout and create a Mole’ black and tan!

Smells old. No BB. Oxidised, but I don’t mind that at all. Mild sweet smokedness. Just in the late finish there’s some nice deeply roasted smoked chilli pepper. However no heat. Very simple but highly drinkable ale. Carbonation a bit high, but drinkability high. The spine of old books. More dusty dry chipotle later.

(Bottle, 0.65 l - BB info not found, 20150426) The beer poured deep amber and clear. Its head was medium sized and almost white. Aroma had malts, cardboard and bell pepper. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, smoke, sweetness, cardboard and bitterness. Aftertaste had burning sense from chilli and oxidized malts and low bitternes. Not an impressive brew at this point of ageing and I suppose it weren’t much better while fresher either.

It’s ok. Really just a bit of smoke and a warming aftertaste. As much as a smoked ale as anything. Kind of thin.

Interesting. A solid ale as you’d expect from Rogue with mildish hops and caramel and vanilla from the malt but a very distinct spicy heat that kicks in late on. Happy to have tried but I’ll stick to more traditional tastes in my beer.

Pours hazy amber with lasting lacing white head. Aroma of malt and slight spiciness. Most of the chipotle is in the aftertaste, it tastes like a solid pale ale with a building pepper flavor. I love peppers, I’d drink it again!

650ml bottle from Beers of Europe. 5%, 40 IBU, according to the bottle. Pours hazy amber, thick white head. Aromas are malty, caramel, vanilla, light spice, green vegetables. Taste is more of the capsicum, light spicy heat. Clean finish, but not a big fan to be honest.

Aroma: Rich, malty. Medium-light peppers/chipotle, caramel. Appearance: Clear amber body. Small, off-white head. Good retention, lacing. Flavour: Medium smokey, peppers. Light toasty, caramel. Medium bitterness, medium sweetness. Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation. Overall: Very good! The chipotle is the main actor, but it never overpowers the base beer. 650 ml bottle, poured. 21A. Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer 8C. Extra Special/Strong Bitter (English Pale Ale)

Pours reddish amber with a one finger off white head with pretty nice lacing. Aroma is of earthy chipotle, caramel, sweet malts, pine, and some toasted malts. Taste is about the same as the aroma. Has a medium body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and an spicy, semi dry, medium-long finish. Overall, a decently tasty pepper beer.

Reddish brown pour. Malt, smoke, a bit of chili pepper make up the flavor. It’s pretty good but I wish I liked it more than I do.
