COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dedicated to Spanish author Juan de la Cueva, who, in 1575, wrote of a Mexican dish that combined seedless chipotles with beer: Chipotle Ale is based on Rogue’s Oregon Golden Ale, but delicately spiced with smoked chipotle chile peppers. Deep golden in color with a tight head, rich malty aroma, delicately smooth and crisp flavor, and subtle chipotle chili finish. Formerly known and packages as Mexicali Rogue, Chipotle Ale is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, and Maier Munich Malts; Willamette and Cascade hops; and Smoked Jalapeno (Chipolte) Peppers. Chipotle Ale is targeted for spring release and available in a 22-ounce bottle and on draft. Blend it with Rogue Chocolate Stout and create a Mole’ black and tan!

Poured from a bomber into a "Rogue Chipotle" glass. It is just a goblet with a stem that looks like a cactus. Copper/amber color, opaque. Light head that was just dusting the surface. Smell: First some malt and then the chipotle. Very distinct chipotle smell. I usually do not like fruit in my beer, but this smells really nice. Slightly sweet at first, followed by the chipotle pepper. Enough spice to know it is there but not obnoxious or overpowering. Soft at first, then bubbly carbonation, followed by a crisp finish. I liked the soft start and crisp finish, but a little less carbonation would be better. Oh, the pepper’s heat stays on the lips for awhile afterward. Very good and drinkable. I love the spiceiness and smell. This is probably the only beer with a fruit added that I really liked.

Sampled on draught at the Bull in Highgate. Deep golden, going on copper, colour with a white head. This ale starts sweet with toffee flavours and a slight smokiness creeps in. The chilli hit comes later. In between there is an enjoyable fruitiness with notes of quince. Very full mouth feel. The beer is well hopped and has a pleasing bitterness. The chipotle flavour, with its smokiness and chilli heat, is surprisingly well integrated. An excellent and original beer from Rogue.

Bottle at the Roadhouse Barbecue, Bangkok. Poured a clear mediun amber with a thin white head. The aroma is light malt hop. The flavour is moderate bitter light sweet with a smooth resin hop bitter light spice palate. Medium bodied witn average carbonation. Nice and smooth but I hoped for more flavour and a lick in the tail.

Cloudy amber-red-brown with a glass-full of kace and two finger head. Aroma of malt, hop, caramel, yeast, spice, peppercorns and grass. Taste has a slight spiced hop kick. Subtle heat that disappears as soon as the watered down hops come through. Smooth watery palate. Chipotle pepps finally are noticeable on the end.

"this one is definitely unique & spicy (for better or worse) with a roasted quality not found in many chile pepper beers. i’d never be able to drink a 22 of this by myself, so i consider the drinkability low, but it goes quite well with tamales. 7/11-still dont realy dig it. spice and smoke, rough around the edges. eh."
