Dedicated to Spanish author Juan de la Cueva, who, in 1575, wrote of a Mexican dish that combined seedless chipotles with beer: Chipotle Ale is based on Rogue’s Oregon Golden Ale, but delicately spiced with smoked chipotle chile peppers. Deep golden in color with a tight head, rich malty aroma, delicately smooth and crisp flavor, and subtle chipotle chili finish. Formerly known and packages as Mexicali Rogue, Chipotle Ale is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, and Maier Munich Malts; Willamette and Cascade hops; and Smoked Jalapeno (Chipolte) Peppers. Chipotle Ale is targeted for spring release and available in a 22-ounce bottle and on draft. Blend it with Rogue Chocolate Stout and create a Mole’ black and tan!

It pours a light amber and gives the same color body. A really nice looking foamy lumpy white one inch head appears and lasts for a good three minutes before gently dieing into the body. Some spotty lacing is left. The smell has the jalapeno peppers powerfully up front, malts only come in after a half an hour of warming up. The taste is the same adding a very nice dry smokey aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium and sharp on the tongue, possibly because of the peppers that were added. A nice "hot" feel rushes over my tongue after about five minutes of having a couple sips of this, interesting. Overall, this is good for me and good for its style.

Bottle. Pours dark gold with a creamy thin white head. Aromas of sweet caramel malt and slight vegetables. Flavors are grass, smokey crackery notes, sweet malt, tobacco, vegetable notes and a slight hot pepper burn. Thin but creamy mouthfeel. Actually, a well-made beer, but the addition of chipotle peppers takes the flavor in a direction that isn’t terribly enjoyable. This reminds me of a rauchbier crossed with a lager. Without the peppers, this would be a pretty delicious ale.

Shared bomber poured to snifters, showing an orangey gold, almost amber color, with some soft white head foam that reduced expeditiously to a ring & film, and left some wavy lacing on the glass. The nose was light smoke & pepper that presented a bit of betadine/Band-Aid scent, with some light fruit involved. Medium bodied, with fair carbonation, the taste included moderate & lingering, earthy bitterness, with dryness, and "better late than never" pepperiness to the finish. Okay, but the introduction disappointed.

Pours clear copper color with off white head. Aromas of caramel and peppers with some smokiness. Smoked pepper flavor with slight heat and some caramel. Medium body with average carbonation. Better than I was expecting.

I love chipotle! Thin head, weak aroma, but sweet of anything. Some smokey. Flavor is of smokey chipotle, kind of spicy, but very mild. A bit of malt character comes through. Overall the chipotle dominates. Finished sweet, yet dry. Not bad.

Keg. Honey coloured with a thin white scum. Nose is honey sweet with a firey pepper. Taste is thin, a light lemon then a hit of pepper/paprika. A bit "meaty", but a but overly thin to excite. Burny, but not hot...

Enjoyed in glass poured from a 650ml bottle. Hint of spice, more akin to smoked paprika... or chipotle:) Some hops in there. It’s a drinkable ale. Goes well with bbq. Got better halfway through the glass... the 2nd. Something fun & different. It works. My 100th rating. Didn’t think it would take me this long. I like the journal aspect of ratebeer. Pours a hazy copper colour with a short lasting white head. Light aromas of chipotle peppers and caramel. Not much else to say here. Flavours bring big, smokey chipotle up front which blends to salted caramels, and a light citrusy note. The smokiness lingers well into the off-sweet finish. Medium bodied. The beer is more smoke beer than chili beer with only the slightest hint of spice managing to build up by the bottom of the bottle.

22 Oz bottle pour split. Pours a clear copper color with a thin head. Orange fruit, and hops aroma. Drinks nice, with some good hop character and a very mild pepper spice. Pretty good pepper beer. Enjoyed it.

Clear amber color with a minimal head. Malt forward with some green bell pepper on the nose. Average carbonation and medium-body. Taste is similar with a smoked taste and some mild hop bitterness with the pepper just kind of there. It doesn’t pack much of a punch as far as heat goes. Dry peppery finish.
