COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dedicated to Spanish author Juan de la Cueva, who, in 1575, wrote of a Mexican dish that combined seedless chipotles with beer: Chipotle Ale is based on Rogue’s Oregon Golden Ale, but delicately spiced with smoked chipotle chile peppers. Deep golden in color with a tight head, rich malty aroma, delicately smooth and crisp flavor, and subtle chipotle chili finish. Formerly known and packages as Mexicali Rogue, Chipotle Ale is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, and Maier Munich Malts; Willamette and Cascade hops; and Smoked Jalapeno (Chipolte) Peppers. Chipotle Ale is targeted for spring release and available in a 22-ounce bottle and on draft. Blend it with Rogue Chocolate Stout and create a Mole’ black and tan!

I liked this one. Very faint chipolte flavor and aroma. Not sure where or how people are getting a burning/spicy flavor from however.

Pours a clear, dark, reddish amber bordering on chestnut with a very thick and persistent pale buff head. Aroma is not strong but lures with malty and subtle vegetable tones. Flavor is bolder than the wan aroma, adding subtle peppery and hoppy notes to the slightly sweet malt core. Texture is smooth and fairly firm, and fizz persists. Let spring spring with a crater of this.

Not sure if this is a re-badge, or a totally separate beer. Beautiful clear copper pour with decent white one finger layer of head. Nose is slightly earthy and herbal. Flavor is dirt, and toasted beach wood and caramel. The chipotles come across as very smokey, even though the beer as a whole is not. Almost has a peaty character to it. Ever so slight amount of chile heat creeps up on the back of throat. I wouldn’t ever need to have it again, but overall, not that bad for a chile beer.

Caveat: this beer gave me horrible hartburn. So even though, I ’m sure it’s a good beer for the style, I just couldn’t give it high marks in the overall, mainly cause i couldn’t finish the bottle. Pours a nice clear amber with decent head. Aroma is slightly spicy. Flavor is not overbearingly hot, it’s the finish. A fiery lava flow in the back of the throat. Not a beer for me.

From 22oz bottle to shaker. Pour is a hazy orange, thick off white head. Nose is light; slight malt, spice, bready. Taste is light bodied, bitter. Finishes with a carbonation pop, flat favors. Like the concept, just lacks some body bad personality.

Caramel malt aroma with moderate smokiness. Appearance is orange and super cloudy. Head is off white with avg head retention. Flavor has a moderate malty smokiness with moderate amounts of heat. Mouthfeel is thin and watery. Overall, I the malt flavor is flat and the beer is too thin. I will not buy again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Omg this is a horrible excuse for a beer. Very hazy orange color with malty caramel aroma. The chipotle is apparent if the flavor, but not in a good way at. No heat from the pepper at all just an old musty smoke flavor. No hops in the beer at all. Wish it had some bitterness at all. The beer finishes like water. This is like drinking a bad homebrew. Much like most of the beers rogue makes. Try again. Please stop selling this!! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours copper / orange with a small off-white head. The aroma has mushy caramel, bread, light pepper and toastiness. It has a medium smooth-ish body with light sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with nutty toasty amber ale maltiness, spicy hops, spicy pepper and some crackers. The finish is dry and peppery. This is fine for a pepper beer.

Tap. Clear golden amber pour with a small spotty white head. Caramel malt with just a nice little hint of pepper spice. Subtle. Pretty well done.

650ml bottle. Clear, copper-ish amber colour with average to huge, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Caramel malty aroma, exerted sniffing exerts a peppery spicy note with a touch of smoke. Taste is minimally sweet caramel malty, minimally dry, hints of smoke, a peppery spicy chili touch. Slightly loveless knocked up basic ale pimped with an always welcome chipotle note that sadly doesn’t come across fertile soil.

Tap at Lazy Dog. Transparent orange with white head. Aroma of sour hops. Taste of something sour, like the beer has gone bad. Tangy aftertaste.
