COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dedicated to Spanish author Juan de la Cueva, who, in 1575, wrote of a Mexican dish that combined seedless chipotles with beer: Chipotle Ale is based on Rogue’s Oregon Golden Ale, but delicately spiced with smoked chipotle chile peppers. Deep golden in color with a tight head, rich malty aroma, delicately smooth and crisp flavor, and subtle chipotle chili finish. Formerly known and packages as Mexicali Rogue, Chipotle Ale is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, and Maier Munich Malts; Willamette and Cascade hops; and Smoked Jalapeno (Chipolte) Peppers. Chipotle Ale is targeted for spring release and available in a 22-ounce bottle and on draft. Blend it with Rogue Chocolate Stout and create a Mole’ black and tan!

This is strangely good. I’d say it’s an excellent choice for the second or third beer of your night. But I wouldn’t order a second after I’ve had one, it gets a little old. You can really taste the chipotle in the beer - it’s actually a little surprising.

Clear red orange. Aroma is mildly peppery with a cereal/ yeast backbone. Chipolte pepper is evident on the palate but mild...spicy and smoky. Palate, like most Rogue beers, is balanced and clean delicious.

A - Slightly hazy copper with 1 finger of off-white head. Average retention with minimal lacing. S - Soft pale malt with smoked pepper in the background. T - Soft and sweet grain with some smokiness behind it. You can taste the chili in it for sure. Earthy and mellow. Finishes with a hint of heat on the back of the throat. M - Medium body with adequate carbonation. Interesting and pretty good. The heat from the chili is not hot but makes a presence. Nice earthy pale malt to back it up. Serving type: bottle 12-10-2011

Citrus fruit, chili pepper, and bread crust. Slightly hazy orange-copper with a mostly fading, white head. Dry and a little spicy. Light, low carbonation, and leaves some heat lingering behind.

On draught at rogue for my birthday - in 32 oz glass - pours a nice clear amber color with small off white head. Nose of smoke and pepper. Nice balance of malt and smoke - not too much heat. One of my favorite summer beers from rogue! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap 6 oz. pour at Old Line Wine's The Bistro in Beltsville, MD. Clear, dark amber-red-brown. Aroma of caramel, brown bread, malt, chili pepper flesh (the aroma of the pepper fruit itself, rather that the spiciness) and bandaids. Taste of of smoke chipotle peppers, caramel, raisins and brown sugar. Leaves a hot pepper taste in you mouth, but is far from being overwhelming and balances rather well with the malty flavors and sweetness. Light/medium body and medium/light carbonation. The mouthfeel is slightly slick and, more importantly, is too thin to match well with the more robust flavors. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

650ml bottle. Pours a hazy mid-amber, with a smallish off-white head, which does not last all that well, but does leave good lacing. The aroma mixes caramel and toffee malt notes with chipotle and faint floral hops. Quite strong citrus and pepper hops up front mix nicely with the chipotle, creating quite a spicy effect. The chipotle continues into the mid-palate, where it is moderated by caramel and toasty malt. Smoky, spicy chipotle makes up the finish, and leaves a chilli aftertaste. The hops and malt flavours pair very nicely with the chipotle to create a beer that is a little out there, but certainly very tasty.

Tasted at Battle of the Brews. Pours a copper brown with a white head. It's pretty sweet and a smokey finish. Not really spicy at all. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
